Some Tire Questions.
A few questions about tires.
I have 9500 miles on my Avon Cobra R tire and I can see the wear bar. I am disappointed with that as I am a easy rider (no pun intended). So, I am going to get a new tire. Right now I am looking at the Dunlop E 3 bias and on the dark side I am looking at a Dunlop SP 5000. I have an Avon Cobra in the front. What size would I get with the SP 5000? What size would I get with the E 3? I want to use Dyna Beads – how many Ozs? If you ride on a SP 5000, what sort of miles do you have on them? If you ride on a E 3, what sort of miles do you have on them? Txs

Some Tire Questions.
I had 23,000 kms on my rear Cobra when I replaced it and it had more life left in it.
Not many twisties here in Southern Ontario. |

Some Tire Questions.
Bill I have the Dunlop Elite III's on my bike. The rear is 180-R70-16 and the front is 150-80-16. At least that is what I remember them being. I fully expect to get around 15,000 miles or better out of them. Maybe even more based on the tread left on both tires. I have almost 7,000 miles on the rear tire and over 5,000 on the front with no visible signs of wear. I will definitely buy the same tire again unless Dunlop comes out with a better tire between now and then.

Some Tire Questions.
As stated on the Dynabeads website, 2 oz for a bike tire, 3 oz for a car tire.

Some Tire Questions.
I run 2 oz of beads in the SP 5000, and I think that's enough.... Dunlops have a target like dot. I am saying the dot looks like a yellow or lime green archery target, which alines with the valve stem. The SP 5000 IMO is a very good rear on a Nomad.

Some Tire Questions.
I'm still new to the Darkside with around 1500 miles on my SP-5000. It's a 195/60R16. I'm running it at 34 psi and love it.
The SP-5000 appears to be a good quality tire and is performing very well. I'm happy with my choice. |

Some Tire Questions.
Ranger, I have the Dunlop E-3 bias ply 160/80 x16 on the back of my bike and a Bridgestone 150/80 x 16 bias ply on the front of my bike. It's a 07 with 42,000 miles on it.
I do not have the tire wear complaints that most folks do with the Nomads. My first OEM stone rear went 12,000 and was replaced early because I was leaving on a trip. The 2nd went 15,000. I got 20,000 ea out of my first two front OEM stones and have a third on now. I had very good wear, no cuping at all and was satisfied with them. I replaced the 2nd rear with the larger E-3 cause a dealer going out business was selling his tire stock for 60% off. It was less than $100 bucks and the only one he had that would fit a Nomad. I have almost 15,000 miles on the rear tire and tread is about 60% gone so it would easily go 20,000 but it began cupping at around 10,000 miles. I will replace it this winter long before it is worn out because I ride a lot of twisties and I am begining to feel the effects of the cuping in the turns. An interesting (to me at least) piece of info. I have the radial version of the Dunlops on my goldwing. I have 12,000 on them and tread wear wise both front and rear would go 20,000 but, they are cupping also. And that is the general opinion of Wing owners. Dunlops wear like iron, but they get noisy, then the cuping get's bad and you have to replace them before they are worn out. And strangly, one of the replacements of choice for the Dunlops by the wing owners is the bridgestones that Nomad riders replace with dunlops. I am going back to a stone on the rear of my Nomad this winter and I think I will try a set of stones on the Wing when I replace the Dunlops.
