Confusing a GPS

When I went to Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago I had the route plugged into the GPS. The mapping software is expecting to see the slow down going through Hoover Dam. Crossing the new bridge I noticed the ETA dropped around six minutes or so. Didn't think anymore about it. This morning I was resetting the trip meters and noticed the max speed on my GPS was 222 mph.

Since I have an older GPS the mapping software will never be updated to reflect the new bridge. Just think of the kind of speeds we can obtain with the Nomads!

Confusing a GPS

Yeah, they can get befuddled sometimes. I had my GPS with me in a rental car when I was in San Francisco a year or so ago. I was near downtown and wanted to get back to my hotel, which was near the airport. SFO is on the west side of the bay, across from Oakland. I'll be damned if the GPS didn't send me TO Oakland rather than down the Bayshore Fwy where I needed to go.

I got a tour of Oakland late on a Wednesday night. ::)

Confusing a GPS

I was traveling from the hotel to class one day last week near Houston. The Zumo 660 kept telling me to get onto the Interstate. It had me on the service road while I was flying with the rest of the herd at 80 mph.

Mine told me to turn into a lake when I was in New jersey last year. No kidding. I was actually on a bridge and it said to turn now. ::)

Reminds me of an episode of The Office, except he turned into the lake.

Mark if you had been riding the Green/silver Nomad that speed would be believable!

Confusing a GPS

I guess we all see what kind of effect a HOK Kandy paint job can have on the performance of a bike.

GPSs are definitely not perfect. It's always helpful to have a general idea where you should be going. While in San Fran mine tried to get me to go the wrong direction down a one way street.

Confusing a GPS

I've never any issues until I traveled to Washington with my new Garmin. What a piece of junk I'm selling it and keeping my old reliable Magellan Roadmate. The Garmin had every problem imaginable, from not knowing where I was, slow rerouting, thinking I was on freeway when on frontage roads, thinking I was on the road when I was in parking lots, the problems went on and on. I thought I was getting a deal by having free map updates, how wrong I was. I would never believe any review of a Magellan losing to a Garmin now that I have experienced all my problems.

I don't see anything wrong with your photo of your GPS. Other then it dropped the decimal in the top speed. Funny, but it is in line with the other readings as look at the average and then the top speed if you put in the decimal where it belongs. Not sure why it didn't put that in there that time? but I would bet the readings are accurate.

Like cell phones and texting, what did people do before GPSes? depending too much on technology relieves one of thinking...

Confusing a GPS

I still use my trusty maps to get where I am going. Never been lost, confused sometimes, but never lost. I always got home so I couldn't have been lost. They would still be searching for me if I had got lost.
