Motorcycle Wheel Lock for Nomad
Does anyone use a wheel lock on their Nomad? I know we have the factory lock, but was wondering if that was enough or if it is worth adding some type of wheel lock. If you do, pluses and minuses. Thanks in advance.

I use this in conjunction with the factory lock.
http://www.bikebandit.com/kryptonite...k-premium-pack It doesn't take up much room and is always in my saddle bag. I always use it in hotels overnight. Anyone wanting the bike would have to pick it up to take it. Always use the reminder cord.

Pluses? Someone might leave your bike alone and move on to easier pickings. I use a trailer hitch lock through one of the front brake disc holes. Usually only at night when at a motel.

I use several, but my 01 was stolen, so I got a nasty lesson.
I can use all of these at the same time if I get to a 'shadey place', or just one besides the steering lock and that steering lock is a cinch to break. I use a disk brake lock made by Bell, and it has a red plastic coil that you set on the throttle grip, so you can't forget the wheel is locked from turning. I use that one most. Then I got this big horse shoe looking lock that passes thru the ft wheel. next i got 2 cable locks that pass the wheel and frame. I use those on the trailer wheels too, so the trailer can't be dragged away very easy, and or to lock the bike into the trailer and right around the trailer axel. The trailer also has a 110 decible alarm and a pepper gas trap with purple permanent dye. The gas canister does 2,200 cubic feet, so it's gonna be a real bad day for a bad guy in a 6x6x12 enclosed trailer. The rear door is a ramp and has inside hasps with locks not to mention the oem external improved type. The side door has additional locks as well, that limit how far the door can be opened. 2 are cable, and one is chain. My Nomad isn't going to get stolen any 2nd time, unless I get pushed off it physically, and then I plan to shoot that fool with a .45 and worry about that later. A real good crook could steal this bike in about 1 hour. Most crooks will go look for a easier target.

Ive never even used the steering lock since Ive owned the bike. Ive never parked in an area that I felt was a high risk for theft.

![]() Seriously, at home my bike is locked in the garage and I have full replacement cost insurance. I have been thinking about a wheel lock of some kind for road trips, so it will be interesting to see what is most popular.

I have a DISC LOCK on the front wheel. It has a ORANGE cord that you attach to the throttle. My steering lock doesn't work so I had to do something. I feel pretty secure with it on. I will be getting the steering lock fixed very soon.

If you are willing to put a lock on your brake roter, why not just put a dead bolt on it? It essentially does the same thing... but like CJ said, make sure you take it off.

I will use a counter argument. I watched a couple of big burly security guys at a bike rally move a HD fully alarmed with a wheel lock. Took them less than a minute to move the bike out of a no parking zone. Did not even set off the alarm.
You need a skate board, a mechanic creeper, or something similar. Put it under the locked wheel and easily roll the bike away no mess, no hassle. They had the bike moved so quick with no noise you would have slept right through it. I quit carrying the lock and have no idea where it is anymore. The Nomad is insured, I can always buy a new one. In any given parking lot I figure they will take the HDs before they even look at mine. My suggestion, do what makes you comfortable. ![]()

Buy a Kymco cover to put on it, no one will be looking to steal that.
When I am away from home I cover my bike with my old cover, mildew and dirty. I put a lock through the grommet holes at the front wheel through the rotor hole. Can't forget to take the lock off that way. If they want your bike, they will take it. Have Insurance Will Travel.

Painless has a front wheel lock with an alarm. I forget the manufacturer but it's pretty neat. Clamps onto one of the rotors and gives off a shrill alarm if the bars are turned or if it is stood up off of the side stand.

I know of a bike that was stolen in a trailer, taking the trailer which was locked to a truck. All that was left was the trucks drive shaft and the nuts and u bolts holding the drive shaft.
