Squeak Squeak
Hello
I am dealing with the heat shields hose clamps and the squeak squeak there are now producing. I tightened one of them down so much in fact that it snapped. Is there any solution to the squeak? I had a guy tell me that if I applied a thin coat of silicon on the clamps that it would help or eliminate the squeak. In my eyes wouldn't that just melt or burn off? Are these clamps anything special? Can I just replace with stainless steal clamps that you can find in most auto stores? Thanks

There should be some high temp lubs you could try. Stainless steel clamps would be what I would try.

Check the spot welds that hold the bracket to the heat shield before you buy new clamps.

Any SS rad clamp should work. They shouldn't squeek at all when tight, ndbigfish is correct, check where the clamp attaches to the heat shield. Mine broke there and made a squeek. I fixed mine myself by making new tabs and silver soldering then to the heat shield. It did mark the chrome a little bit, but I didn't want to buy new heat shields at the time.

You sure it's the chrome shield squeaking or could it be the little chrome piece heat shield that rivets on the chrome shield? My little chrome heat shield kept getting looser until the bottom rivet came undone. I then drilled out the top one and put in two new steel rivets, works great and is super tight now to the chrome shield.

As far as I can tell all of the rivits are intact. I will double check today when I re-install them with the new clamps...thanks all :)

Never had the problem, but I wonder if glass pack glass, or a little wood stove glass rope might pad the clamps. It sure won't burn up.
