New rifle on the way

I have been wanting a good pellet rifle for quite a few years so I started to do some research a couple of weeks ago. Found one adult rifle that has great reviews with arguably the best factory trigger on an airgun. It is an Avenger 1100. Solid wood stock, all steel construction, double trigger. I got the .177 cal. The rifle weighs in over six and a half pounds and is 45 inches long. 1060 fps and very good accuracy. Only 120 bux delivered.

Still waiting for it to get here. Should be this Friday. I feel like a kid at Christmas waiting for it to get here.

Bought it for fun plinking and eliminating a few pests in stealth mode.

I gotta tell you there are some darn impressive air guns out there. Tack driving accuracy and lots of power. Some will blow through 3/4 inch wood with no problem.

Now I'm researching scopes and replacement iron sights. You can't but a high powered rifle scope on an airgun because they will fall apart with just a few shots. Pretty surprising.

Anyone else into airguns?

I own a Daisy Red Rider which for shooting is worth a $hit but nice little collector's item. I needed to shoot at some cats that kept eating my cats food but it wasn't accurate enough. I then purchased a Daisy Powerline 880. It is pump action and plenty powerful. It has a rifle barrel so it is also very accurate. You are right in that you can do a little shooting on the stealth. Bet you can't wait for it to arrive.

I was going to buy a pellet gun to shoot the pests around here but my neighbor moved.
Seriously Bud, is it one you pump or is it CO2?
Did you look into the Gamo air guns? They are supposed to be fast and accurate.

Sorry to hear your neighbor moved TC. Man, that could have been fun. Hiding out and peppering his or her tail and then watch them jump.

Can you explain that? The scope falls apart?

I've been having a Benjamin .22 caliber pellet rifle for about 12 years. Very accurate and deadly on egrets eating fish out of my pond. I know how being anxious is Bud. I have a new in box Springfield Armory 1911 .45 Loaded Parkerized with combat night sights coming in tomorrow. I won it on Gunbroker.com for $89 cheaper than I could have purchased it wholesale from my distributors. Sells retail for $800 - $900. I got it for $610. I feel like I did when I was a kid waiting for Santa.

Ive got a Crosman 760 Pumpmaster, 782 Crosman and a couple others as well. They are all the 495 feet per second guns, which are nothing like the one your getting. They work ok On most little critters around here, but unless you geta head shot on a squirrel they keep going.
Ive seen that there are some really neat airguns out there now. Never heard of the Avenger models, I'll have to check them out.
Here in Canada any airgun over 500fps has to be registered just like a real gun.
I just bought my son a Daisy Red Ryder 75th anniversary edition for Christmas, Im sure he'll enjoy unwrapping that one.

You can't mount a regular rifle scope on an airgun. There are too many vibrations in forward and aft directions as well as twist from the spring (assuming a spring charged gun) that aparently tear apart a high powered rifle scope in nothing flat. I know it sounds odd but that is what my research tells me. Had a friend clue me into that bit of info several years ago when he was looking for a new air rifle and scope combo.

TC this is a spring charge, break barrel.

Bud; Have you looked into a red dot scope, I wonder if they will stand up to the job. I have one on one of my 22's, you can only see the dot in the scope and not on the target. It works well at closer ranges. At 100 yards though the dot in the scope hides the bullseye on the target and I cant see it.

Bud I read the link and it says 589 FPS.... I'm confused? Only because I'd like to get one if they do throw a pellet over 1000FPT..

Gamo makes a few that shoot over 1100 fps but they are over $200.

Brad, that link is for the .22cal the rifle that I bought is the .177 and it is listed at 1030 to 1060fps. I bought mine from Pyramid Air from this link;
http://www.pyramydair.com/p/avenger-...ir-rifle.shtml
The rifle should be here tomorrow and I will let you know what I think of it at that time. It is a used rifle for 120 bux with free shipping.

Ring, I've only just started to look at scopes and have not checked out the Red Dot. I was looking at the one advertised that is called a Leapers 3-9x32 or 3-9x40.

You are correct about the air rifle ruining a high dollar hunting rifle scope. The shock from the air rifle mechanism will shake the reticle loose. I know of a local guy that mounted a Leupold Vari-X II 8x scope on a competitive shooting air rifle and in less than a month he had to send the scope to Leupold for repairs. They asked him if he had dropped the scope causing the internal damage.
