Gear Case

I am looking at changing the oil in the gearcase and was wondering what everyone is using?

I run the Mobil 1 75W-90 full synthetic. Several others on here also use it.

I use regular 80-90 gear oil, and change it once or twice a season.

Same as gene and Cj, The thing is you want the side stand on a flat 2x4 NOT dead straight up. Don't be crammin more than that in there, or you will be sorry.

I change mine every oil change. Thar's no bloomin way any 6.2 ounces of oil there will last any 24,000 miles.

I get my wife to hop on pillion which raises the drain bolt enough i can slip it out, with out doing any exhaust loosenings. V&H baggers.

I've been using 75-90 royal purple since the Nomad was new. My quart is almost empty. I'll either go back with RP or either of the other major synthetic brands. I change mine every 2 or 3 engine oil changes. Looks just like it did when I put it in when I drain it.

Mobil 1 (synthetic) 75W-90. I like to change everyother oil change. Don't flood the final drive; listen to Mac.

Mitch how expensive is the Royal Purple? I have heard it has a great reputation.

I change my rear drive oil with every oil change. It isn't difficult nor expensive to do. Might as well change it out when you are changing the oil.

I had my first and only maintenance done by the local KAW dealer. They used synthetic BMW 75/140 gear oil. Didn't look in the book for recommended oil but I've been using it ever since.

Now I wonder about oil weight??????

If I remember correctly it was about 18 dollars but the priice didn't matter since I use so little to change it.

It's been over 2 years since I purchased the qt of Royal Purple gear oil. If my memory serves me right it was under $20 at Auto Zone. I only purchased the RP because that was the only synthetic oil they had on the shelf.
