Bought 00 Nomad yesterday, few questions.

Hello, everybody! Nice forum!
1. Where extra computer is usually installed? I have Vance and Hines exhaust and aftermarket air filter, maybe I have Power Commander.
2. I have fuel tank dents from windscreen brackets on both sides. What can I do about it? There supposed to be turn stops for front end, I guess they don't work for some reason.
3. Somebody warned me about breaking plastic oil pump gears, how to check them?
4. Are there common problems beside oil pump gears?
Thanks.

Welcome to the Nomad Nation. Stop by the New Member Board and introduce yourself to everyone.
1. If you have a PC or other fuel processor it is probably behind the left side cover below the rider seat.
2. I don't know about this one. First I've heard of the windscreen hitting the tank. Is it the original screen and brackets?
3. Plastic oil pump gear came in the '99 model only.

Good luck with the new ride.

Thanks Cajunrider, I'll sleep better tonight! (about gears)
Don't know about windscreen.
I'll ride my new bike tomorrow first time, I had to clean clutch master cylinder today.

Mitch is correct, as usual. I've never seen the windscreen brackets even come close to touching the tank. It could be an aftermarket windshield, or a previous owner has "customized" something.

We need a picture of this bike.

As Mitch says the fuel processor if you have one is usually under the left side keyed cover held on with velcro. PC III, Cobra and TFI are common units.

I see no possible way the tank is getting hit by the windshield. If you have one or another form of handle bar risers they might hit the speedo nacell, but not the gas tank.

Mitch pretty much answered the questions. As for the dents you might take it to a shop that specializes in hail damage repair. Might be able to pop them for you.

I heard that putting dry ice on dents, let them get good and cold , then remove the ice and leave area in the sun. Apperently pops them out. I've never had to do it. But you may want to talk to an autobody guy.
Or leave them in until you get that steering/windshield figured out.

I'll bet the windsheild has been changed somewhere along the way.

As long as we are betting, I bet it is risers hitting the tank not the windshield brackets.

windscreen bracket hitting fuel tank. Is it OEM?
space between instrument cluster and fuel tank. Is space there because Harley switch was installed?

Picture 2 shows:

Is that some type of lightbar bracket shown in the last pic? That isn't stock.

Bought 00 Nomad yesterday, few questions.

First off let me welcome you to the KawaNow forum.

1st:
Yes that shield is factory and there should be bump stops on the triple tree neck to keep it from turning to sharp. Take a look at that..
2nd:
The nacell needs to be taken off and see if there is some wiring holding it up, also I beleive there is a rubber type gasket that goes on the bottom lip of the nacell.
3rd:
The bar on the front is a Billet style lightbar, just missing the spot lights.
4th:
The clutch lever is bent, look on ebay for a good used one.

Cheers

The nacelle looks like it isn't sitting properly on the tank, unless its the reflection in the pic.
Also if the risers have been changed or are for the wrong year bike they will allow the handlebar to hit the nacelle.

In 2000 they built a mix of normally carb'd (like mine) then changed to FI sometime during that model year. Be sure which one you actually have.

fyi - my 2000 stock windshield doesn't come anywhere near my tank - don't know what that's about.

This VIN decoder might help you a bit: http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/kawasaki.asp

Welcome aboard!

Bought 00 Nomad yesterday, few questions.

Does the key work right smack in the center lower section of the nacell on this bike? Looks like it is located there instead of the stock location which is ft left frame above the horn, if I recall. Or is that a HD switch, which might be why the nacell is bumped up.

The Nacell is sure on funny. I had a 01, and I know the stock key location was under that tank on the left.

Under the forcks there is a fork lock or there should be, but it looks high inside the fork cover in pic 1. I am not sure what the chomed thing I see really is, but it looks like a fork lock way up too high. The bumpers you are seeking as fork stops are involved with the OEM fork lock.

If that bike was hammered hard enough to need a new ft fender and a windshield it may have broken the stops right off.

probably why the passing lamps are missing as well.

Have a real hard look at that ft fender for no sign of a crash. That will mean it was replaced, not fixed.

These fenders come in paint all ready to bolt on, all trim and stripes as is right out of the box.

I know because I hit a jeep that hit a moose and bought a new ft fender. My bike has never been down, since it was trapped dead up straight. I got lucky and no one was hurt, and only the fender was pooched. I even rode the bike home with a dinged fender which I replaced the following spring.

Your bike is suspect to a crash that still may have hidden damage or not.

Yer left side mirror is funny too, but I think you made it that to suit you.

The chromed side covers are oem, but not dead stock oem, and the bag rails are a add on too.
The seat is not stock either. The ft turnsig visors and the speedo visor are add ons.

The hand grips are add ons as is the air filter set up, which I suspect you know.

I think it is either glare, my vision or your left lower is busted off and a hunk is missing.

I think Chuckster is incorrect about any nacell gasket as nothing should contact the tank, or be made to seal the close gap when the nacell is mounted correctly, which yours is not.

Guys may add a crimp plactic chrome tape too add but stock that eadge is naked. If you do add anything after you get the nacell on better do not allow any thing you add to touch the paint, or it will vibrate and eat that paint.

I am certain this bike went down on the left and banged around some to bend that clutch lever, which as said is or was stock. I count that as a custom bend
