Westboro "Church"

I heard this morning that Rev. Phelps and his Westboro Church from Kansas are planning to protest the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards. WTF is wrong with these folks? They even have a message on their website saying "Thank God for breast Cancer"?

These misanthropes call themselves Christians? I hope they all burn in hell. Twice.

I suppose they need to schedule a PGR mission for her funeral to drown these low life's out. The first ammendment allows these slimeballs to continue. They have no regard for the feelings of those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

I don't see how anyone could have an axe to grind with the late Mrs. Edwards. These lunatics just want a bully pulpit to spew their hatred from. I understand their speech is protected by the constitution, what about the rights of the Edwards family (and countless others) to mourn in peace? You can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater and you shouldn't be able to protest at a funeral, in my opinion. There is a time and place for everything.

Elizabeth Edwards did nothing to deserve this. Now her husband on the other hand.

They claim she didn't have God in her life since she had cancer. WTF???!!! How do they know that? And what if she didn't? That is no one's business.

While I didn't agree politically with Ms. Edwards... they do not have any right under any interpretation of the law to disrupt her funeral.

I hope a Patriot Guard can make a showing to protect her dignity at her funeral.

Sometime soon, the Supreme Court needs to get their heads out of their @sses and make a ruling to disallow this type of demonstration at a funeral -- no matter who the person is.

Agreed. While we should "judge not, lest we be judged", we are also instructed that we can judge a tree by the fruit it produces. The fruit from WBC seems to division, hatred and strife.

Sour fruit indeed Daryl. Our church has lost several devout and humble Christians to cancer. No one can explain why the Lord allows his children to suffer and die from such a dreaded disease, but there is a reason. Someone will be led to Him through her humility and bravery.

1st ammendment must not intrude on "Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. One cannot practice free speach if it inflicts emotional stress and harm... Westboro cases are headed towards the Surpreme Court.

I agree 100% with what everyone here has said. Anderson Cooper did say tonight on AC360 that the supreme court is going to look into what Westboro is doing.

I still say their leader needs to be shot precisely between his eyes. People like that have no place on earth.

I am not positive; but I thought "they" already looked at this situation once... I could be wrong. However; I would agree with your first statement; and that "they" need to re-examine it.

I cannot see (not being an expert of law or the constitution) giving the right to a person to protest in this manner.

If the SC upholds the right of this group to protest; maybe then each state could require a permit to do so... (for public safety reasons), but make the permit fee tens-of-thousands of dollars to make it mostly unfordable. Also, make the fee increase each year based on inflation so the issue never has to be revisited.

Just a thought.

I agree with you Greg, a permit should be required and if they don't have it then arrest them.

Loafer there can't be much good going on at their church if they are never there. Don't think what they are doing is what Jesus had in mind for pastor's and churches to be doing.
