rider backrests

I am considering installing the Utopia backrest for my 06 Nomad and wondering how others that have done so feel about the level of comfort for both rider and passenger. Thanks.

I put one on my Nomad and can say it is a great back rest. You need to take the seat off and remove the cover from the rear seat. It really isn't as hard as you imagine. Just take your time and it will come out great. The directions that come with the backrest are right on. So is the information provided on the web site.

Best of luck and you will love the backrest.

Utopia, the best investment I made for the Nomad. I can ride all day without back problems, 1000 miles in one day and it was the butt hurting, not the back. Needless to say, no more iron butt for me.

Sounds like a good backrest although I hadn't heard of it. I will have to check it out.

I have the Utopia backrest. Absolutely love it! Doesn't interfere with my passenger either.

From what I've read, the Grasshopper Driver backrest is a great option also. I've found it on EBay for $90. Easy to install and fits with the stock seat. When I decide to purchase one, it will probably be the one I get.

I have a grasshopper rest on my 07.
Damn good product for the little amount of money.
I will say it moved me to far forward so I took it apart and modified it so I could sit back further.
This may not be a problem with stock seat. I have a modified Honda Aero seat on my bike.

+1 on Grasshopper! I got the one setup for the Mustang seats a few weeks ago. I haven't been on a ride longer than 3 hours but so far so great!

**BAKUP** Thats all there is to say. A bit more pricy, folds forward for ease of passenger mounting, no holes to cut or drill, on and off in 5 minutes. Mount slides between the two seat halves, bolts to front seat bolt. Has springy 'give' too. ;) Fully adjustable for and back, up or down. Maybe the best investment I made to my seating on my '06 Nomad. Second only to having the seat repacked and cut with memory foam. :) Grasshopper is one other option, less money and removable too. ;) Some claim that it moves you forword a bit, but I can't say. Looks good for the money tho.

+1 for the grasshopper. I can't say that it moves me forward with the stock seat and I'm 6'. It does make getting on and off a bit more interesting but I've found a method that works just fine. I would not want to do without a backrest now that I have used it especially for the all day jaunts.

BAKUP is right. I had to back up after reading the price of those things. WOW! That's one expensive backrest. $369 with studs. That half the cost of the 3 piece Ultimate seat setup.
