D@^N, Post Office!

I ordered a Grasshopper backrest last Saturday (10 days ago). They processed the order and shipped it out first thing Monday morning. I was pretty impressed and excited. I figured I would get the backrest in time to put it on and go for a nice ride this past weekend.

I was a little disappointed when it hadn't shown up but, I figured that's OK, I'll get it on Monday or Tuesday, install it and go this coming weekend.

Well, thanks to my local Post Office and some moron working there, it is not to be......They shipped it back as being undeliverable!!!!! I have a P.O. box!!! I have been here for 5 years and all the P.O. people know me!!!! They only had it in the P.O. for one hour before it was put back on the truck, it took them only 20 minutes to deem it undeliverable, WTF????

I am not happy. I have the print out of the tracking sheet and will be going there later this morning to see what is going on.

I have already sent an e-mail to Grasshopper informing them what happened and to expect the package. I'm having them ship it back out as soon as it arrives. Hopefully, I'll get it this time.

And the Post Office leadership wonders why they're in the red all the time and in danger of folding. There are better, more efficient and more reliable companies out there that do their job better!

They don't operate very smart. I had a handgun that was shipped to me for transfer to a customer sit in my mailbox for 3 days. It was shipped to me requiring an adult signature that the shipper paid an extra $3 for. We were out of town and instead of USPS holding it for a few days at the post office, the mail man figured he would sign my name on the ticket and leave it in the box. After getting home 3 days later and finding it in my mailbox with a big sticker on it stating "ADULT SIGNATURE REQUIRED", I went to the PO and spoke to the postmaster asking how this was left in my box without the signature? He asked the carrier who told him he had signed it himself. I should have reported this to BATF but let it slide after giving the postmaster a few choice words.

Was the address on the package with your correct PO Box number? I know that in many areas street addresses don't get delivery from the post office, and many companies forget to list the correct po box number. Addressing issues cost the postal service millions of dollars a yr in rehandling and redirecting.

Know what you mean Russ... and I've been through that same situation with the post office. I too have a PO Box and I don't have any snail mail delivered to my home. I live in a small town and everyone knows me and where I live.

But, when something comes in for my physical address, they send it back "undeliverable" even tho they know my PO Box.

I recently had something shipped to my physical address by USPS priority... thinking that they will deliver just like UPS and Fedex does.... wrong.

The post office shipped it back as undeliverable because I don't have my physical address registered with them.

About the only thing we can hope for is that someone will take over the USPS service and privatize it.

Privatize it will cost you more, service will be worse.

Research what happened to other countries after going that direction.

UPS and Fedex don't go to all the places the USPS go. You know that guy on top of the mountain or many rural places. In addition to keeping offices open where the revenue doesn't pay the bills. How many miles do you think people will have to travel out of their way nationally if all offices were closed that didn't turn a profit. USPS tries to give everyone service.

Yea they aren't perfect but most postal workers are hard working.

UPS and Fedex don't have to work on many of the constraints the USPS has to deal with.

Also keep in mind the days of "everyone knows me" are long gone. There are machines reading mail of all shapes and sizes before it even gets to the delivery office. If an address is not an address recognized by the postal data bases, it may not even get to the delivery office, as it could wind up in a town that has a delivery address of a same or similar street name.

So if you have delivery issues, make sure you pay attention to how mail is addressed.

Oh and by the way, every piece of mail that gets to the delivery where an address is not recognized costs everyone paying postage more, for rehandling of that mail wherever it winds up.

Just asking, why would a person not want mail delivered to their home?
Seems a pain i the ass to go to the post office everyday to pick up mail ???

Yes TC that makes sense to me. The last time I had a PO box was several years ago and I had to pay $26 for six months and it was a tiny box.

The post office isn't perfect but it is probably the least expensive we have. Works pretty good for me but sometimes they are a bit slow.

TC I didn't want to comment on why people don't have home delivery because there are multiple reasons.

And A-Rider a little slower sometimes but cheaper. People forget the postal service has to deal with letter size pieces as well as all other size and shaped packages. It would be much easier to deal with just packages because you could set up vehicles and transfer stations for just that. Letter size is a whole different animal.

I had couple issues like this sending out boxes for my biz so I stick with FedEx now. Actually cost is cheaper throughout US using FedEx than USPS. I still use USPS when shipping to Canada or overseas. Hope you get them soon. Good Luck!

Trip,

If you only have a PO box, why not have it shipped to your work address?

Why don't people want a post box out on the road here is SNOW. You dig the snow out there or don't get mail, and the town plow drivers get mail box munchies often meaning hit the mail box with a 10 ton truck.

BUT at this point we have one out there.

Flavor... that's a substantial difference in price for shipping. I can see what you mean. ;)

It would be my guess your paycheck is from the USPS

We all have nightmare delivery stories from any of the carriers... I have my fair share with UPS.

Next Day delivery for them doesn't guarantee next-day delivery I learned. (You have to read the small print I guess -- as with anything -- however, I feel when a company advertises Next-Day delivery... it should mean next-day delivery.)

If one considers the sheer-number of envelopes and packages delivered in any given day around the world... it is rather amazing how few problems there really are.
