Received the wrong FI2000, need some help

Hi, I ordered the FI2000R for my 2000 Nomad. It came today but unfortunately I received the FI2000...This means I will be doing some soldering, which is exactly why I wanted the R model instead. I know I saw some pictures somewhere which showed how to install it and I searched the first 23 pages of threads but to no avail. Does anyone happen to know where I can get some photos that show how to solder the wires the correct way? I'm much more visual when it comes to doing this sort of thing...Why is it when there are 2 models that are similiar of anything, you always get the one you didn't want...lol...Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to do the T-Tap, I would like to solder it and use some heat shrink on it afterwards...Thanks, Jody

What model did you order? If you ordered the FI2000R and they sent you the wrong model, I'd be on the phone to the vendor.

Scott, I ordered the FI2000R...I called the vendor and of course they apologized for sending me the wrong one and the FI2000R is out of stock (of course)...They did knock $30 off so now I need to do some soldering but don't know if I need to take the ECU apart or just cut the wires before they enter enter the ECU and try to attach them that way...don't really want to use the T-Taps...Jody

Not sure what you paid for the FI2000R model but if like the company I purchased mine for they were listed for $206.000 for the R and $158 for the FI2000 like you ended up getting.
So that's a $48.00 difference in my case. I'd check there site to be sure of the price.
Now on to the instructions. You can download the instructions for installation via your model you GOT from Cobra USA website.
Also check here: http://www.gadgetjq.com/tfi.htm
The instructions for the TFI and the Cobra FI model are similar and it shows the base settings (chart). Between the 2 you should be fine. One advantage you have with this install is you don't have to remove the gas tank! ;)
Sorry haven't got mine yet so can't direct you but read through Gadget install instructions and I think it will be clear. Maybe print them off and read them while sitting in front of the bike and you'll see exactly what they are referring to.

Good luck

Scott

Can you scan the instal info it came with?

I have only done solder on TFI.

If it like that any........... There is just 4 wires, and only 3 get solder

'IF' it is like that probably a black wire off the unit can go to the battery hold down as ground. You crimp on a eyelet for that.

'IF' there is a all red wire, that one goes to the tail light wire under the seat. I believe it red on the bike too.

The next 2 go near the ecu, on the harness for the ecu, and the hard part is seeing the colors correctly.

One of these is easier a blue/gray, then the harder is pink/blue. Some people call the blue gray.

I have such a bad time telling the colors I pull the injector plugs off and test the wires in Ohms.

There is 2 wires that look pink / blue, and you must have the one to the injector.

Once you have the right pair of wires on the harness you don't cut them (TFI) , instead you melt/scrap insulation.

HERE I solder on pig tails so long as please me, add on crimped insulated spade connectors opposite one another.

In other words one pig tail gets a male spade on the harness and the other wire gets a female spade. Once that is done with heat shrink and liquid tape, I install the respective terminals.

With TFI it makes no difference which injector wire goes to which injector.

If I could read your instructions I could tell better if what I am sayin' means anything.

Hi Mac, I got it figured out, soldered the 3 wires and everything checks out fine...I'm not exactly sure where to set the cobra but I will start out 3 5 0 and go from there. My elevation here is around 2800 however I ride in the Black Hills often and the elevation there in some places like Custer is over 5280 feet...I will just have to play with it once the snow melts here...I also did the Chucks Coasters to eliminate the EPA Crap and also have his duel plate with the K&N on the left side...I used my dremal to try to get rid of the cross tube but wasn't able to get rid if it totally. Just each end, which will make it easier when it comes to the cam chain extension. I'm somewhat anxious to get it on the road when the snow and ice is gone but everything went well...Thanks for posting and take care, Jody
