throttle cable lube
I have wondered about this myself. I guess you could use some type of dry type lube and spray it in them. Maybe someone will give us a little help on this. I haven't lubed mine but like I said I have wondered about it. It will probably be tomorrow before we will get a definite answer.

It doesn't really matter, 3 in 1 oil, or even motor oil is good for that job. If you use a cable oiler it makes the job a lot easier, you clamp it to the cable and can then spray some lubricant there.
Most bike shops sell them, Ive seen them for under $10.00 in the past.

I use WD-40. The cable oiler does help. It's a slow process and the guessing game is when do you have enough lube in the cable.
Now you have me thinking of needing to do mine. |

WD40 is not a lube, it will displace moisture but not lube.
I have found this to be a great lube available at wally world. http://www.gunk.com/prod_photo.asp

Mine get squeaky 1-2 times a yr so I just squirt some W-D 40 in the grip ends after taking switch housing apart.

I use a lot of WD-40, mostly to clean and protect metal like my old Winchester 94 after I drag it through the mud and brush (why does it always rain when I go hunting?) but I always use a good grade oil after the cleaning.
FYI "WD-40 is the trademark name of a widely-available water-displacing spray developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, San Diego, California. It was originally designed to repel water and prevent corrosion, and later was found to have numerous household uses. WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement - 40th Attempt". Larsen was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion, by displacing the standing water that causes it. In the process, he arrived at a successful formula on his 40th attempt. WD-40 is primarily composed of various hydrocarbons. WD-40 was first used by Convair to protect the outer skin of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion."

So far I crack the screws loose a little and add drops of Marvel Mystery oil in there. Bombs Away style.
I find the nylon roller is what gets goobered up mostly. MM works for me well. One of these days I will crack open the adjuster nuts and loose the adjustment, dump oil in there, and readjust. Another way would be un do thje cables at the throttle body and hold them high, add any light machine oil that you like. That could be gun oil, MM, Break free with teflon, Remington gun oil another wiz oil. Mil tech and so on.

My son and I cracked open the housing today just to take a look. Where the exposed cables go into the metal tubes it seems to be tapered. Looks like it would hold enough oil long enough to let gravity and a few twists do their thing. While you're working on the cables, it is also a good time to adjust the play in the throttle.
