Can't see it Derry. The pics are filtered out here at work. I seem to remember a thread describing the same problem a couple of years ago.

I would suggest taking the heat sheild off the bike, drilling out the old rivet and replacing it with a new SS rivet. You will probally need to use a washer on the pop side.

I had the same thing happen on my V&H rear heat sheild on Saturday. I fixed mine by silver soldering the broken tabs on the back of the heat sheild. It did mark the chrome a bit, but I wasn't overly concerned about that at the time.

Yes it should hold up, Ill know for sure as time goes on, but I doubt I'll have any problems.
I would have tig welded it preferbably, but didn't have a tig handy.
I rode the bike for 2 1/2 hours in the heat yesterday and it was 95f and the welds are holding fine.

It takes quite a bit more heat to melt the silver than the pipes will generate. TIG would hold up better to the vibration and harmonics. I think it will be OK Ring. Will V & H sell the heat shield alone?

Dang, you guys are high tech. I'd have tried duct tape or bubble gum first...J/K. You could ride it to the base and sit it over by the jets and have one of them hit it with an afterburner, that may cause some slight scorching of the paint though, so that won't do either.

Hope you get it fixed for the big ride Derry.

You could use some bailing wire or an old wire hanger ;)

V&H will sell a heat sheild but it won't be cheap by the time its shipped up here. My bike is an 2002 and not a garage queen so I can live with the small blemish on the sheild. a couple people who have seen it say its barely noticable anyways.

I wouldn't trust JB Weld in this application. With the heat and vibration I doubt it would last more than a day or two.

Mine are both gone. Came loose so I reriveted. Must have done a crappy job, cause I lost one comepletely and one was hanging by 1 rivet. Now they are both off and I just get by.

Think I would go the soldering route Derry. Doing a rivet job could be just that, a job.

For the record: JB Weld did NOT work. Kunk the bike, let it run at idle in the garage for about 10 minutes, went out and the shield was dangling....looks like stainless steel radiator hose clamps for the ride to NC....
