Looks like I need a scabbard

No, not to pack a rifle. I need to be able to carry a cane. :-/ My hip is not healing as fast as I had hoped and I'm not going to give up riding the Nomad so today I'm going to figure out how to mount a scabbard. Maybe 2 inch pvc pipe strapped to the fork tube.

Here's a vision. Leathered up biker pulls up on a big Nomad and sets it on the kickstand then steps off and whips a cane out of a scabbard and hobbles away. My daughter suggested that I put the scabbard on my back. How's that for a visualization?

It should heal up like the right one did a few years ago. Doctor calls it Transient Osteoporosis of the Hip. Rare. Comes and goes. Real pain for a few months. With my luck it will clear up just as the snow flies and riding season is over. I'm supposed to go to Colorado in two weeks with the Blue Knights but that may be in jeopardy. We will see.

I see lots of leathered up bikers limping around with canes and even walkers. You wouldn't be the first. Take care, Bud - I hope that heals up quick for you.

Bud maybe a combination flag pole/scabbard is the answer. Hope you heal up quick. Additionally, you should be without snow.....global warming has cleared that up, you know. ;)

I think they make canes that work like a switch blade come straight out from the handle. About the size of a night stick. Would fit into the saddle bag. If not, we've got a money maker here.

Hey rich get a piece of leather and cover that PVC with it. You can make it look like the old west. You know horse, rifle......motorcycle cane...............

Either way hope you heal quick.

Coming from me this might seem odd, but you could have a little class and with that a leather scabard and a nice walking stick. make it look evil and nasty but nicely done. Hickry sanded well stained dark real dark and polyed in full blown shine, maybe a little silver trim ring here and there and a hard top of some sort. I don't know what the stick is like now.

I like the spring loaded stick too. TYhat might have a similar bit o' class, and tell the evil ones to not tamper with you. A leater case can have tabs and mount on the forks, maybe between the fender and bags, and other. I don't know which hip it is. Knowing that might lend others more ideas. Left hand carry or right?

Wow, the creative juices really get flowing among you guys. I actually kept it simple and functional. I bought a length of 2 inch black PCV pipe and cut it long enough to hold the cane and short enough to mount onto the handlebars and windshield lower. With a couple of pieces of velcro the tube is now mounted in place. It's actually the same mounting system that I use for my fly rod.

Mac, if this goes for very long I will have to try to put your system into use. Sounds classy.

Tombstone, I don't get down that way very often. If the hip holds out and I can make short daily rides (350 to 500 miles) I hope to accompany the Blue Knights to Colorado in about 10 days. I'm thinking lots of ibuprofen will help.

Its no fun getting older and finding new aches and pains, hopefully your hip will get better as you say and you can resume riding more.
A guy at work just sold his Wing and bought a smaller bike because of his hip problem. He found the Eing to heavy to manuever, and was scared of dropping it.
Those are some good ideas withe the scabbard and cane.

Got a neighbor that puts it between the fender and bag on his Roadglide.
Actually looks pretty cool and if I end up with a cane, that's what I'd do

Bud I didn't know you were having problems and sure hope you heal up quickly.

Here is a good one for you. Not an idea just something that happens with me. I can drive the car for 100 miles or so and my hip starts hurting something fierce. I can do the same 100 on the Nomad and my hip doesn't hurt at all. Of course my butt hurts on the Nomad and doesn't in the car. Just can't figure life out.
