Top tier gasoline

I ran across this on the internet today. Personally, I prefer Chevron, Shell and Quiktrip fuel. I do not like using no-name gas from indie retailers and will do so only if no other choice.

Top Tier Detergent Gasoline

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.

Since the minimum additive performance standards were first established by EPA in 1995, most gasoline marketers have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the ability of a vehicle to maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine deposits which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.

These automakers have raised the bar. TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. Thats something both drivers and automakers want to avoid.

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers

Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.

Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below.

TOP TIER Gasoline Retailers:

QuikTrip
Chevron
Texaco
MFA Oil Co.
Conoco
Phillips 66
76
Entec Stations
Shell
The Somerset Refinery, Inc.
Kwik Trip / Kwik Star
Aloha Petroleum
Tri-Par Oil Co.
Turkey Hill Minit Markets
Mileage Stations
Road Ranger
CountryMark
Chevron Canada
Shell Canada
Petro-Canada
Sunoco Canada

While I assume this is a national "list"; I do wonder if this is just those stations in your area CJ.

Some of them I have never heard of; and those I have not appear to be regional or local to AZ.

Otherwise, I appreciate the info. It makes sense.

Of all those brands I can get Chevron and Shell in my local area. I use a lot of Pure as it is alcohol free. Pure stations later became Union 76 and then here locally they became Pure again. No Union 76 or 76 here in my area. I also use Exxon a good bit as it is available without alcohol.

A lot of them I've never heard of, so I'd assume it's national, but it also includes Canada,

I got a buddy that works for a local fuel supplier. He concurs that Chevron + Texaco are the best in our area. Says that Techron additive is really good stuff. They also have the best filtering system to prevent "bad gas" from getting into our vehicles.

We used to have one local station that had no ethanol but they decided to go the ethenol route because they couldn't sell enough of the "pure" stuff.

Gasohol is the real cause for detergent additive reductions by virtually all the major refineries. The alcohol is a solvent and the water in the alcohol is a decarbonizing treatment.
I don't know weather the list on the internet is true as you can rarely really believe what you read there. Then again this "Top Tier" gas program has been "debunked" on the internet several times with claims that the source for the Top Tier list is the members on the list. And can you believe that? I do know the at each oil change I treat my fuel with Berrymans equivalent of Seafoam and every other oil change I do the throttle body along with the treatment and I thing that means I don't really care about my fuel detergent content. Just my opinion.

CJ, your list has Sunoco Canada on it but not Sunoco here in the US ???
I use Sunoco 98% of the time. Only use other gas when Sunoco is not available on our road trips.
We have a brand called Hess up here in NY and I used it once in my Nomad. I thought I was not going to make it home the bike ran so bad.
Then we have the Oneida Indian Nation who have a Casino in the next county but are buying up most gas stations in the area. They claim to be a sovereign nation :-/ and refuse to pay taxes on anything they run. Our politicians and Governor won't enforce the laws on the books to make them pay their share. Can you say bribes boys and girls.
So I out right refuse to buy or have anything to do with their enterprises.

Blue gas works better than Red gas!

All gas comes from the same small number of refineries and is all shipped down the same bulk pipelines. In a pipeline there is no way to separate in any way the gas that is going to be sold under one brand name from another. The additives and colors added at the distributor are a lot more about marketing than anything to do with actual performance.

It's not "my list". I copied and pasted from the Top Tier Gasoline website. I did this as a service to my fellow members, I didn't come up with the list of stations, 75% of them I've never seen or heard of anyway. Buy your gas where you feel comfortable.

I have no clue why Sunoco Canada was on the list, but Sunoco wasn't. I've never heard of Sunoco before.

TC the land is under federal laws and the state of new york cant levy taxes against land under federal jurisdiction. The Oneida's are just buying back what was stolen from them by our greedy forefathers.
