Decided not to buy the farm

I made my first ride with my new trailer. But I had an interesting thing happen. I was riding about 65 or 70 with traffic on the interstate when I noticed that cars about 100yds in front were emergency braking. I new I could stop, and traffic was about 200yds behind me so I flashed my brakes to ensure people behind new I would be stopping. Suddenly I saw a nine foot length of truck tread stretching across the road. I thought I am not going to ride this out. As I hit I aimed for the center and prepared to go down. I bounced up, then the trailer went. The front end went into a tankslapping manuver and I remember thinking I am still in trouble. A touch of back brake and even pressure on the front end while coming down in speed and I was back traveling down the road. The bike was not damaged. The trailer had a chain come off the bike and one fender got bent down almost to the tire. Sometimes it just pays to be lucky I reckon.

Glad I wasn't there because watching this happen, I probably would have left stains.

In fact more so than if it was happening to me. Past experience is you don't have time to worry. You just think about what you need to do to get through times like that.

Afterwards you think about how bad it could've been.

Really glad you're OK. ::)

Decided not to buy the farm

WOW! I am so glad you got through that!!!! What a scare!
Thank you for sharing that with us!

On Friday, I was riding behind hubby with the trailer on his Nomad and almost watched him "Buy the farm" too!!!! It was heavy traffic and he admits he was riding closer to the SUV in front of him than he should have been. When the traffic light turned yellow, the SUV in front of him decided to slam their brakes to a stop!!!! I watched in horror as Chaz quickly swung over to the next lane and on through the intersection. Fortunately, he had the space in the next lane to do that.

I hope these trailers aren't bad luck?!!!! ::)

Decided not to buy the farm

Flavor is right. While it is happening there is no time for worrying. When I saw the brake lights I was busy doing a 360 check for possible ways around (Cars on both sides). Then when I saw the rubber come bouncing out from under the other car I shifted into preparing for some air time without the bike when it hit as well of course trying to dead center the tread. The tread slammed up into my left foot board and from the looks of the fender it slammed an end down on the left trailer fender pushing it down. Then after it passed my thoughts were pretty much on trying to stay upright. After it was all over I sort of relive the whole thing and let the adrenaline drain out.

I wonder if engine guards saved your foot? A 65mph whack with something as heavy as one of those treads is a hell of a whack.

Picture you sitting still and one of those coming right at you at 65mph and hitting you. It's the same thing as far as your foot and trailer fender are concerned. Too bad it wasn't already lying flat after the car tossed it up, by the time you hit it.

Glad it all worked out in your favor for the most part.
