What 6x9 speakers for fairing?

I need to get a pair of speakers for my fairing. I've got the 6x9 cutouts. I was looking at a couple different ones on ebay.
These Pyle PLMR692
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

And these Polk Audio DB691
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Does anyone have any experience with either of these speakers? Any others that you would recommend?

Also, most stereo head units are designed for four speakers, with a two speaker install, do I just run the front (or rear) speakers and leave the other outputs with nothing on them? Or is there a way to combine them to get more power?

Here's some information I have dug up in my own research over the past few weeks for my fairing project...

First, a lot of audio manufacturers will not honor their warranties if the merchandise was not purchased from an authorized dealer. You roll the dice if you buy audio gear from eBay. That's just something to be aware of.

Most modern car audio speakers will handle the exposure to the elements just fine. There aren't many manufacturers still using paper speaker cones, for example. Most are poly or mylar with a butyl rubber seal. Since I live in the desert, I am more concerned with heat/dust than I am with water resistance.

Since the fairing speakers sit there in the open, one of MY personal criteria is a speaker grill that covers the entire speaker with mesh to protect them from curious fingers, dropped tools, etc. I was considering the Polk DB651's, but I didn't like the open grill. This is purely my opinion.

I have decided to install Rockford-Fosgate Punch series 6.5" (P1653) speakers in my own fairing, as they meet MY criteria mentioned above. With speakers, you truly get what you pay for. Buy a set of $15 speakers and you'll know what I mean.

Both speakers you mentioned are decent. If you haven't done this already, I suggest going to Crutchfield.com, Amazon.com, Sonicelectronix.com or similar websites and reading the customer reviews of the products you are considering.

The receiver will work just fine using the front or rear outputs. DO NOT try to combine front and rear outputs to get more power. You could fry your head unit. If you want more power, buy a more powerful head unit or add a small 2 channel amplifier.

My fairing will be delivered on Thursday, I am waiting to measure the speaker openings, depth, etc., before I order my speakers. My head unit arrived on Friday and my HD tourpak mount AM/FM antenna kit will be here on Wednesday. I purchased my marine stereo enclosure from a local marine supply store on Friday. It's like an early Christmas!

I purchased the Polk Audio MM691 6 X 9 and a Kenwood440U. Both are marine rated, I'm not going to install them until Friday. I can give some reviews then. I've always had good luck in my home with Polk products, and Kenwood was the only blackish (graphite) stereo I could find. Both seemed to have good reviews, but not on a bike! Chris

I bought some 5 1/4" Pyle speakers and they have not stood up very well after two years. Luckily I bought two pairs, and so far two speakers just quit working and one has a torn cone. I glued the edge of the torn cone with silicone and its holding so far.
I bought these for $15.00 a pair so Im not too worried about them lasting. Plus the store where I bought them will give me a refund when I return them regardless of time used, so I cant go wrong with them.

Not a lifetime warranty just a very good return policy. Princess Auto's motto is No sale is final until the customer is satisfied. They buy a lot of surplus inventory and the prices are unbeatable. Its just that once they are out of stock there is no more to be had.

I bought a pair of Rockford Fosgate punch (p1694) speakers. When I mount them in the fairing, do I mount them from the outside? or mount the speaker from the inside, and the grill on the outside, sandwiching the fiberglass?

The speaker goes on the inside of the inner fairing and the grill may or may not go on the outside depending on its style.
