New Member looking 4 help
I am the new owner of a 2007 Nomad. After 23 yrs on my 1986 Honda Shadow 1100 I can to the conclusion that it was time to upgrade. If the Nomad runs as good as the Honda I would be more than happy.
I am looking forward to some long rides both east and west of Omaha (where I live) but looking for some advice on some aftermarket products. First let me say that I am about the least mechanically inclining person I know. I am thinking about adding the following and would welcome comments/advise. 1. For sure I want a light bar - looking for suggestions as to brand. 2. I am thinking about a Mustang seat with driver backrest. Can someone tell me how sturdy the back rest is? (I am 6’2” and 250 lbs) 3. I am thinking about adding a front light modulator. I want one that I can turn on and off – looking for suggestions. 4. I am looking for a pack that will fit over the Nomad back rest – any suggestions. 5. Do Iso grips feel “better” than the std ones? Now here is the hard one (hard for me anyway). Why do some many folks add on V&H mufflers? If it just for the “sound”. Some say that it helps “performance” - how does it help performance? And, if I add the V&H, do I need to also add a fuel management system? If so, which one? Thank you for any help you can offer? Bill

Welcome from Arizona! No trouble with the Mustang backrest, I am as tall and heavier. Pros and cons to the modulator, I don't use one, I just leave my light on bright and it seems to work for me.

1. For sure I want a light bar - looking for suggestions as to brand. Cobra make a nice light bar but a mamber here Chuckster makes a neat way to add lights also. 2. I am thinking about a Mustang seat with driver backrest. Can someone tell me how sturdy the back rest is? (I am 6’2” and 250 lbs) I tried Mustang, didn't like it so no help here. 3. I am thinking about adding a front light modulator. I want one that I can turn on and off – looking for suggestions. Don't have one, don't like them so no help here either. 4. I am looking for a pack that will fit over the Nomad back rest – any suggestions. I have Tourmaster. Don't know the model but like it alot. 5. Do Iso grips feel “better” than the std ones? I use stock. Now here is the hard one (hard for me anyway). Why do some many folks add on V&H mufflers? If it just for the “sound”. Some say that it helps “performance” - how does it help performance? Most guys add aftermarket pipes to make more noise and get better sound in my opinion. They claim better performance but in order to get more performance you need a fuel processer. And, if I add the V&H, do I need to also add a fuel management system? If so, which one? Don't have one so no help. Thank you for any help you can offer? Bill [/quote]

1. I like the Custom World Int'l (CWI) billet mount lights. One of our members here, Chuckster131 has just started making a variation of them. http://www.vulcanbagger.com/phpBB3/v...ic.php?t=15740 2. Trust me, the backrest is plenty sturdy. I'm 6'1" and more than 250 pounds. I have the same seat myself. 3. Can't help you here - sorry. 4. The Nomad backrest is a hard fit because of it's unique design. I can tell you from experience that T-Bags brand bags will fit, but you have to compress the backrest pad some, which makes a snug fit. 5. I think they do. The standard grips suck, IMO. Well not all of us install V&H exhausts. I have Cobra True Duals. There is a chronic problem with some V&H's rear head pipes cracking. An aftermarket exhaust system alone will do little to increase performance. To really wake these beasts up, you need to install a fuel processor and open up the intake to get more air moving through the engine. The " 3-part plan". I would recommend the Cobra FI2000R or the Dobeck TFI for fuel management. Why do we add them? I can't answer for everyone, but I ride with a group of Harleys and I got tired of not being able to hear my own bike. Enjoy your new bike!

Welcome from Kansas, I'll answer what I can.
1. I have purchased a Cobra Light bar, but If I hadn't already bought it I would check out Chuckster. His products are very nice and priced right. 2. I have a Mustang seat with driver backrest, I like it a lot and it seems to be plenty sturdy. 3. I don't have a headlight modulator. 4. Really dont know about the pack, will be interested to know what others say. 5. I think Iso Grips are a big improvement over stock. I really can't answer the hard question, as I am running stock at the present time.

Welcome from North St. Paul, MN
1. Check out Chucksters site, great guy, great products. 2. Don't know. 3. Do not like meeting bikes with headlight modulators, makes my brain hurt. 4. Don't know. 5. Yes 6. 3 steps. Fuel processor, pipes, intake. Better performance and mileage. IMO

Welcome to the group. In addition to my Nomad I've had the Honda Aero 1100 for 5 years. Both great bikes, I actually prefer the Aero for most of my riding except the month long camp/cruise in the summers. Anyway, to your questions:
1. Cobra light bar on my Nomad fits great. No issues. 2. I've got a driver's backrest with stock seat. Works fine for me but I'm not a big guy. 3. Modulators are great. You don't see many of them, not sure why...guess they aren't cool. Mine toggles on with the high beam, except at dusk when the photo cell turns it off then the brights take over. When you see an oncoming car that appears to be getting ready to turn left or pulling out from an intersection I switch it on and it gets there attention. 4. I've got the Tourmaster Cruiser II. Love it but had to remove the sissy bar pad which is a pain. MY Super-T for the Aero looks like it would fit. 5. ISO grips on mine are fine. I'm convinced the V&H are added for the cool factor in most cases, not the performance. Mine came with them but I would'nt spend the money for them...personal opinion only. |

Welcome from Ohio. Cobra light Bar yes. Mustang maybe, had one on my 99, am trying the Kaw Gels on my 2006. Headlight Modulator no, but the kuryakyn rear running light brake pulser is a must! I went with the River Road #10-8927 Rear Bag http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/de...ssic_Bike_Pack ISO Grips are a must, and The V&H's with Power Commander III really "wake up" the bike.
