Rear Turn Signal Bulbs
Hi All,
I looked back about 5 or 6 pages worth and couldn't find what I'm looking for. My question is: What are the rear turn signal bulbs on the 1600 Nomads? 1157's? I was told by a friend yesterday, he had a hard time seeing my signals while we were out riding (bright light, sunglasses might have added to the trouble). My rear turn signal lens' were replaced with the Kuryakyn Deep Dish Bezels when I installed the Kury R-T-B kit. I'm thinking of replacing the stock bulbs with something brighter, if I can find it. Suggestions? Maybe LED's? Don't want to mess w/ installing a load equalizer though. Maybe just a brighter version of the stock bulb if one can be found. Thanks Russ

1157's are 2 filament bulbs. Common in combination parking / turn signal lights like we have on the front of the bike or park / brake lights.
I think there is something a little brighter to replace the 1156's in the rear, I can't remember the # though. I'm sure others will chime in.

This is all I could dig up: http://www.gadgetjq.com/brakelight_replacement.htm
but I thought there was a brighter option for the 1156 also, the kid at the local auto parts store could probably tell you

Rear Turn Signal Bulbs
I did some limited research on this as I also have the Kurayakyn red bezels on the rear with the TW. I agree that the stock run-turn-brake lights look a little dim.
Not sure how the TW works to get dual intensity out of a signal filament bulb. The only way I can figure is it actually reduces the intensity of the run light so the turn and brake look brighter. Shopped around for high intensity bulbs and found a report that says the LED's, while they look brighter, due to the fact that they are one directional, are actually are not any brighter. I've had no luck with finding a solution so I added extra brake lights. Plan to one day replace the guts of the rear lights with dual filament bulbs and take out the TW but can't figure out how to wire them so the turn and brake work correctly. Brake light on and turn signal on at the same time would require some sort of relay. Anyone have an explanation on how to do this other than with a relay. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I am not sure if the 1156 has a brighter replacment or not. The 1157 does for the brake filiment only, and I figer the number for it, but I have one. The 1157 is something like LL for long lasting 3357, but that is me making up a number in my head..
If I recall the std bulb is 6 watts and the LL is 8. LED's seem to be very directional... meaning the view needs to be lined up to see them.. For that reason I am avoiding them.. Not many roads where I live and ride are stright, so lining up a would be viewer isn't that likely....

If you're planning to install front turnsignal lights on the rear or swapping out the rear sockets for dual filament sockets this may help from Gadget, also go with Mac's idea and install the 2357 or 2357LL (long life if you can find them)

Any decent car parts jobber will have the 2357 LL bulbs. They can also cross referance to watts other bulb numbers. You can do this too at walley world looking in the back of the bulbs chart book hanging in the isle.
For the 1156, you just flip the book to the back and find it, then other referance in watts, and maybe there is a similar number bilb with more watts.

Do a search for 3156, 3256 and 3356 bulbs. I am not sure of all those numbers but I am pretty sure there is a higher wattage bulb out there.

The 3156 is a 50w halogen that will replace a 1156. However, it runs a lot hotter and might cause damage. Check out the article on webbikeworld:
