Russell Day Long for the win

So I hated the price of the RDL but I suppose I shouldn't have put a price on my comfort. I was getting ready to order an Ultimate seat since they had a return policy. Went for a ride yesterday. 1.5 hours on the original seat with a pad from Walmart. Still a little sore today. BUT....today I couldn't believe my luck. I found a RDL on Facebook marketplace fairly close to me. $200 BUCKS!!! I got the studded front and rear seat. Plus a custom passenger backrest and handbag travel inserts. He was trying to sell that stuff since July. He knew their value but wanted someone else to enjoy them and just wanted to let them go. I went for a 70 minute ride and even though I was still sore from yesterday I got off the bike feeling the same as when I took off. 30 minutes has me squirming in the old saddle. 70 minutes today and I felt great!!! I have never been able to ride that long without some sort of padding and that was only a bandaid solution at best.

Super happy with it. I did get a great deal. My patience paid off as I have been looking for a while. I did notice right away some of the things people are talking about. I like the riding position better and it only took a few stops and now I move forward a bit to give my legs a chance to clear the seat wings. Much more sure footed that way and a super small price to pay for that kind of comfort. My rear was already sore from my ride the day before so looking forward to a ride that starts pain free!

They say pictures or it didn't happen. May leave it like this awhile. The family loves the custom passenger backrest. I may look into dressing her up. Not a fan of the dark grey front wheel. Its screaming for a 19inch chrome wheel.

Maybe I'm just too young and coming from the harley sportster, but I dont find the seat uncomfortable. I feel like I'm in a cadillac vs a geo metro. I've had this bike for almost 2 years now and still feel the same.

Are these seats that much better? What about mustang seats, I hear they are comfy too.

If your seat feels good to you that's great, don't spend the money on a RDL.
My stock seat caused severe pain after 200 miles. My first 1600 mile trip was pure torture. The RDL cured that.

I found the original seat as painful as everyone else. But after fitting a £25 ebay backrest, it is much more comfortable. The sitting position is the answer. Forward pegs help too.

Yup,RDL!! Like you I got mine from a Vulcan owner in Meridian MS, on a craigslist lead someone on the ADVRider.com forum had posted. Got mine for $200, along with a complete V&H True Duals for $200. Quite the deal, and worth the effort of getting it home to Green Bay WI.

The seating position is great, and the "wings" are much better to push against when backing up my Vulcan. I'm only 5'-6" and I can still flat foot it at stops if I scooch up a bit on the seat at stops.

Is this a bad time to go " geerrr ". Had my 1500 for a while, the seat gets uncomfortable on long trips. That's really the only time I think about a new seat. Scared the pee out of me ONCE when I adjusted my sitting position while chill-laxing on I-10. That an waiting for the tooth fairy.

Yes the stock seat on the Nomad sucked! I did not replace it and tried all the cheap fixes but no luck.

I did not make the same mistake when I bought my next bike (Honda ST1300). Once I realized the stock seat was painful I went out and bought an RDL... the cost of only hurts once😩

Talk about an amazing difference. I could ride all day and something else might get sore but it wasn't my butt.
