Judge's washers, where?
I'm getting the bike ready for some trailer hauling this coming summer so I'm about to change out the original clutch spring with a Barnett Meanie Streak spring. Figure while I'm at it I might as well put in the Judge's washers I've read about, but he hasn't responded to emails sent over a month ago. Does anyone have another source or email to get a set rather than the one on Gadget's site? My clutch isn't slipping (my bike only has 4,000 miles on it but I'm being a bit pro-active/anal).
I already have the Barnett spring, clutch cover gasket and exhaust gaskets....just trying to shorten the wait until spring time by tinkering with the old girl (the bike, not the missus). Gary Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Judge's washers, where?
Sorry, my bad. I have the Barnett MT-25 clutch diaphram spring from Sherms Cycle Products in Oregon ($22.00). So I'm good to go?!

I thought is was only the 05 and older that needed a spring swap...? CJ- were you having issues?

Judge's washers, where?
My last bike had 27K, but never had any problems. I don't think I've ever ridden a bike that was"slipping".
What is it like? Does the bike just pop out of gear into neutral?

Normally, a clutch that starts to slips looses grip on the friction plates and the engine will rev up as if you were pulling in on the clutch lever while driving.

When it begins to slip, you will notice it in higher gears, like 4th and 5th. You twist the throttle, hard - like pulling out to pass someone and the engine revs high before the rear wheel starts pulling. Mine wasn't very bad, but since I was going to tow a trailer to Custer and back, I didn't want to take any chances.

I always knew that when I headed up a steep grade that if I didnt' downshift I could tell it was slipping by the sudden raise in rpm and no acceleration and it almost feels like your pulling in the clutch but not. So (on the Shadow) I would just adjust the cable and things were good to go.

I believe '05 and newer already come with the stiffer meanie spring. that was an improvement you can do on older models pre '05 to make the clutch a little firmer and more durable.

Judge's washers, where?
Unless there is protection on the outside of the spring I would put in Judge's washers. My spring "fingers" were abraided half way through by 19,000 miles. The heavier spring is also a positive feature. I like not having the slipper style clutch either; which the washer set eliminates.
