Sold the bike

Recently sold the Nomad and will be without a bike for a couple years. To be honest I am done with debt and am making extreme sacrifices to pay my debts. I have a goal of being debt free in less than two years and then I will buy another Nomad. Probably 2008ish. I just wanted to thank you guys for the advice (and entertainment). In a couple years I'll be debt free with a new bike and the time and money to do some serious riding. Thanks again and God bless and ride safe!

Have to respect that. It's best to pay cash for what is really a hobby. Hopefully you'll be back with a renewed passion and a sense of accomplishment and pride. Best of luck.

Larry, I sure and sorry to hear about you selling your bike. Hopefully it won't be too long and you will be riding again. I am out of debt but still have a house payment, insurance on the car and the Nomad, life insurance, utility bills and groceries and that takes a lot more money than I would ever have thought. I receive my social security and money from military retirement and my wife has a disability check that we receive each month and we just barely make it. I have been in your shoes and know how it feels. Keep us up to date on what is happening in life. You seem like a really nice guy and someone I would love to ride down the road with. Take care my friend.

I respect a man who recognizes what he has to do and follows through. It's called wisdom. Good luck and we are all awaiting your return on your new Nomad. Hang around and keep in touch.

Wow, selling the Nomad
While I admire your determination to become debt free, I don't really understand it.
Is there really such a thing as being debt free?
As AlabamaNomadRider pointed out, there will always be bills coming in the mail. Everyone has insurance on their vehicles and homes, life insurance, utility bills and groceries. These are facts of life.
I'm in debt up to my ears but not worried about it. I have a lot of things I enjoy that are owned by me and the credit union. The good part is the credit union lets me keep them at my place to use.
If I were to try to become debt free I would have to get rid of my truck,my car,my Nomad and Cindy's Honda.
Even then I would still have bills coming in the mail every week. I think I will just keep making the payments and enjoying my toys.
Again, I admire your plan and hope it works out for you. Stick around here and jump in now and then. Hope you get back into
riding sooner than expected. Good Luck.

Certain things are more important in life than toys. It sounds like you're stepping up to the plate and fulfilling your responsibilities. If we, as a country, lived with in their means, we wouldn't be in the economic situation we're in.

Glad to hear about you making the right choice. Being debt free is a great feeling. Nothing like being a slave to the banks, card card companies & the list goes on. My wife & are have been married for 10 yrs. I have 3 boys from a previous marriage & besides child support & monthly utilities we have no other debt. We have a modest home we paid off last year. The Nomad, 2004 Silverado, a 2006 Pontiac G6 all were paid for in cash. We are regular blue collar working people. I admire you for doing what you did. When you get your new bike you will be able to hit the road and not worry about how much you don't have to spend on lodging and other expenses but be able to enjoy your hobby at the fullest. I am only 47 & my wife is 41 we have the rest of our lives ahead of us to enjoy and not worry about payments being made. Good luck to you & all those that were affected by this decision. May God Bless you & yours.

I guess when I say "debt free" I mean not paying 12% interest on a order of fish and chips I had 3 years ago lol. I thank you guys for all the encouragement and a lot of you seem to understand where I'm coming from . To give up my bike is difficult. To give up riding is much more difficult. It is a personal choice i have made and I'm just focused on the long run right now. I hope to meet a lot of you guys in a few when I'm riding again.

Larry, I understand perfectly where you're coming from. I also applaud where you're planning to go.

When you get to your goal and can come back to riding it will be even sweeter!

Cheers, Bob.

Larry, I understand where you are coming from. About 3 years ago we made the choice to buckle down and get some student loans for the wife paid down along with a couple others things. Right now we only have the house payment which we are putting extra on and not trying to incurr more debt. Personally, I bought the bike when I did some consulting on the side for a lawsuit. Was a over a year of nothing but working weekends, evenings and taking vacation days to work on this. When I got the paycheck, waited until after taxes were done and decided that the bike would be mine free and clear. Work hard now and enjoy life later when you can without remorse.
