Scala Q2
Looks like I need to get a Scala Q2 for my wife and I. Not sure why, I don't talk much even in the car. But what the heck if it makes her happy and I get to keep riding a lot. The big question is that I have Vance and Hines pipes and they are a little loud. Is the system a push to talk or voice activated. Will the pipes keep the microphone on all the time or is it adjustable. Are there any issues with hearing when she talks if the pipes are loud. I read that the volume is self adjusting, is there a manual override on it, on I a little hard of hearing anyways and need all the volume I can get. Don't want to spend the money if it won't work for me. I am hoping that there is a push to talk button that will overide the voice activation if it operates on that . Look forward to some response.

Scala Q2
G'day Dennis, I'm keen to see what response you get as well. I've been looking around for a while as my wife wants to know whats going on. ( I think she just gets lonely back there.)

Scala Q2
Now see that is where you guys went wrong. The wife never wants to ride and I am happy with that. Riding is my time to relax my mind. I can hear my thoughts just fine using nothing at all. Heck when I am driving the cage she is always nagging at me about everything to include the way I drive. I can imagine how it would be if she were riding with me and trying to tell me how to ride all the time.

Scala Q2
The Q2 is voice-activated. Usually a "Hellooo" will click it on, and if the ambient noise is quiet enough, the system will go into standby when your conversation is over, usually after 20-30 seconds. Frankly, I'm not sure if there's a push to talk, because I've never wanted to use it.
I have the V&H Baggers on mine and wear the EXO-100 half-helmet. I can still hear Ann on her bike loud and clear and do not have to have the volume all the way up. The Q2 also employs noise-canceling, so the ambient sounds from your bike, traffic, wind, etc aren't transmitted to the other rider, and vice versa. This isn't to say you won't hear some wind noise, but it's quite minimal. Microphone placement within the helmet matters a lot. Yes, there are manual volume up/down buttons, and they can be quite loud if you want them to be. I have mine up about 50%. 70% hurts my ears. Hope that helps.

Scala Q2
I have the VH with the ultimate baffles. I have no problem hearing my wife with our Scala team set. Why are you getting the Q2? If your wife is one the bike for you, all you'll need is the team set. It is virtually the same thing just rider to passenger instead of rider to rider. Oh and it's about half the price. Q2 comes with one intercom at a time.

+1 on the Q2. Ours are mounted in modular full-face helmets, and road/wind noise is not a problem. They are voice activated or manual, have a volume control, and paired easily to my bluetooth Nokia cell phone, You can also plug in an mp3 player. The radio function is useless in low and moderate signal areas.

Scala Q2
I have the Q2 system and it worked ok when I had my sportbike; the biggest issue was being able to hear through the speakers, which are attached to the inside of the helmet lining and not too close to my ears. I saw a mod to the system, which I am looking at undertaking, in which you solder in an inline plug. After that, you use whatever earbud/earphone system works best for you.

My wife's speakers were also too far away from her ears, making it difficult to hear well. I just took a small pieces of felt and some two sided tape and put it under the speaker, to bring it an 1/8" closer to her ears. No problem now.

Scala Q2
If your pipes are so loud you are worried about hearing the speakers inside your helmet them my suggestion is get quieter pipes.
![]() Sorry, anyone who knows me on here Will tell you I had to say that. ![]() Anyway, The Q2 is a great system and you should have no problems using it on your bike. It does tend to disconnect every now and them when in use but you just turn it off and back on and that usually solves the problem. As someone else mentioned, if you are just talking to your wife on the back of your bike then the Team Set is just as good and much cheaper. Cindy and I used the team set till she got her own bike and then we went to the Q2 as it has much more distance. AlabamaNomadRider, some of us actually enjoy our wives company while riding. ![]()

Scala Q2
If you decide to go for the Q2, Eastern Performance has the set for $227.95 with free shipping. This is where I bought mine and their service is excellent.
http://www.easternperformance.com/pr...uetooth-MP3-FM They currently have an additional 10% discount through February 28th if you enter "coupon" at checkout. I bought mine for bike-to-bike with my son-in-law that I ride with and I did have an issue with excessive wind noise transmitting from his microphone (he rides a VN 2000). So I recently purchased these wind socks but haven't had an opportunity to try them out yet. http://www.hondadirectlineofshadysid...4&ID=181320703 I've used the cellphone-bluetooth connection and it works great. People I've called have no idea I'm cruising at 60mph down the highway.

How in the heck do you make a cell phone call while you are riding? I can see answering a call over your GPS screen but how would you operate the phone safely?

Scala Q2
Hey Jim,
Thanks for the tip on the price and coupon. Can use this for both passenger and bike to bike? Is it a pain to move a headset from helmet to helmet or should I consider getting a 3rd headset....so I can sync w/all three? I am a little unclear on that...maybe I should just contact Scala.

Scala Q2
I would recommend going to the Scala website and downloading the instructions for the Q2 or whichever comm system you're looking at. That'll give you all the details on syncing with 3 units, installation, etc.
Scala's Q2 Multiset is here: http://www.cardosystems.com/user_fil...al_english.pdf
