Fuel Leak

Hi All,
I have fuel leaking from the bottom of the right side air cleaner cover. Any ideas why. I see the hose coming into the back of the A/C housing and a hole in the bottom of the housing, but why is fuel coming out.
Also, how tight should the carb sit in the engine compartment? I can move mine with my hand and before I take the tank off to tighten I want to save some effort if possible.
Thanks for the help.

Fuel Leak

Im assuming your bike is a carbed model, check to see if the rubber spigot that connects the carb to the cylinder has the gear clamps tight and that its not torn either. Also check for a leaking fuel line. Do you smell raw gas? you shouldn't if al is well. Im not sure if those carbs have overflow tubes but if they do it may be a normal occurance once in a while.
And welcome aboard from Canada.

Fuel Leak

My bike is a 99, carbed, 1500. I do smell raw gas I suspect from the leak. I have also had issues with it starting again after a long ride. No problems on the initial start up with choke, but after a long ride and a long break (30min to 1 hour) it takes a while to start. I have checked the plugs when this is an issue and they are usually wet.
Thanks for any insight.

Fuel Leak

I have seen face to face any carbed Nomad, but I read a review on one. It seems there is a off white plastic fuel line fitting and it can crack, becoming brittle with heat and time. I think this is near the carb float bowl inlet.

I really can't say if the carb should float around, as i have no idea how the intake manifold is made. Many bikes use a rubber intake manifold and so carbs can move around on them. usually there is a bracket involved to reduce how much weight the rubber intake boot can move.

Let us know how your coming mongoe. I don't want to hear 'bout a fellah riding a bike somewhere in CA spontaneously bursting into a screaming ball of flames. ;)

Fuel Leak

No spontaneous combustion yet! I could not find any cracks or leaks around my carb. I hit it with some carb cleaner and plan to run some carb cleaner in my gas tank to see if it will reduce the gum in my float bowl.
Hopefully my brake switch, rear brake pads and plugs will be in tomorrow so I can finish some mainenance and get back on the road to test it out.
Thanks for everyone's insight.

Try pulling the carb side crap off, and running the bike in just neutral with a naked carb, as you look for fuel.
