horrible windshield clairity turned new

Hey everyone...just a usefull tip that i found by default...I have a 02 nomad and the windshield was terribly scratched, the prior owner used what looked like 220 grit papertowl to clean the windshield with...i tried everything under the sun to polish the winshield including the cleaner / polish #18 / #10 by Meguiar's. Polished for about 3 hours with a car buffer and to no avail I still had a junk windshield. I was to the point of buying a new windshield when I tried the Plastic-X by Meguiar's...bottle has kind of a paste consistancy...I applied the paste to the windshield and buffed for about an hour on both sides and holy cow!!! like new again.. took off all the scratches and left a clear windshield...I used a high quality terry buffing bonnet and plenty of Plastic - X.....thought i would pass it along.....good luck

wish i would have taken pictures but, it was a "what do i have to lose thing"

Glad everything turned out the way it did. When I took mine apart to clean it I put a couple of small scratches on mine. I may give that stuff a try and see how it turns out. Thanks for the help.

Bet it would work fine on plastic headlights on cars that gets "foggy" too...

I will give it a try. My '00 Nomad's windshield was scratched pretty bad and always was very hard to see thru, especially when the sun was low in the sky or when driving at night into oncoming headlights. Will let you know how it works for me.

Thanks Matt, mine is getting pretty scratched up also. I have the 3 grades of Lexan polish that was pretty expensive. I've used #2 and the finishing polish but have never used the coarser #3. I do have an automotive buffer and will put more effort into it when it's too cold and wet to ride in December and January.

I have the clear sheild on my full face Simpson helmet that is scratched up from years of use, replacements are not available anymore so I'll give it a try also. Thanks for the tip.

Caution, the newer windshields have a UV coating on them that you can actually polish off. Don't know the breakdown on the years that had/not had the coating. Here is a pic of mine after working on a deeply scratched area. Look for the clear circle around the scratch, it fades back into the coating and isn't really that noticeable since I don't really look through while driving, but it is there...
