Husqvarna Chain saw quests??

I have a husky saw and am wanting to compare it to new saws. Mine is late 80's vintage

It is a 262 XP, a fast limbing saw, and light weight. I use it over all for dropping trees as big as 32" dia and cutting cord wood.

Light weight, some power and no more than 18" bars suit me. My saw uses a 16" bar as it is.

Anyone else here into husky saws?

Husqvarna Chain saw quests??

Ive never had a Husky but a couple pals have them and like them. Im not sure how the new ones compare to the older saws though. I imagine that they are cheaper with more plastic, it makes them lighter but I doubt they will last as long as the older saws.
I use a Stihl 034 with a 18" bar, I dont use wood to heat here so my saw is a early 90's model but has very little use on it. The first few years I used it only to cut the ice in the lake when I was setting my hut out.
Now I mainly use it when I go moose hunting, I keep it in the Argo in case I have to clear a trail of deadfalls.
I just realized that I need to buy a new chain for it since mine is stretched and won't adjust anymore. I wonder if its possible to remove a link and use the old chain. What do you think.

Husqvarna Chain saw quests??

I have the Husky 350.
I've had it for a few years and even after sitting for a year it cranks in just a few pulls!
I'm not sure about the older ones, but if they are 1/2 the quality of the new one then it's a great chainsaw!!

Husqvarna Chain saw quests??

New chains are under 16 bucks each where I am, so I wouldn't fix a bad chain. I hand file to sharp, and use up about 2 chains a year. I save the old ones and use them too, till thar's nuthin left.

I really like this saw and it runs well, but time has worked the plastics hard. Last year I made a aluminum patch on the handle, counter bored for flat cap screws, and JB Welded the alloy in place. That repair is holding up well too, but it might be time to get another saw of some sort and I think it will be a husky, even if it is older and used.

Another of the same for just parts would be fine with me, as my head and this saw are a good match.

What I would like is a lighter weight saw, with twice the power and torque.

I had a saw before that added up to all that, but it was to heavy for me to use after I got hurt.

It was a Sach Dolmar 120 super, and could run a 36 inch Alaskan mill if I wanted.

Like everything else the EPA (Govt) is tinkering around wrecking good things..

So I am hoping someone knows a fast saw, and will tell me in a weight of under 12 pounds with plenty of umooph.

I fell some trees, did 6 today, but mainly cut fire wood of them, so fast is less time on a bad back...

Pre 2000 Huskys are 110% quality, but I had fears they changed..

So WOMPUS, you have a newer 350, and like it lots huh?

i was at a store close out for Natural Foods.. The husband I didn't know passed away and they have his Husky 359 for sale at $300.00. No case just paper work and it has just a very few hours on it. They said and I checked that it retailed at $529.00.

In the papers there is talk of EPA 1, and EPA II.

It has a manual adjust chain oiler which is a must have item to me. What looks flimsy is I can see the fuel level thru the handle.

This saw is listed as hard working home owner class, and I never owned a saw that was rated this way, and always bought Pro class saws.

At this point I wonder what "XP" means on a Husky saw and am having the Devils own time trying to get the model numbers to mean anything.

The first number really has me stumped in the set of 3 number, the last two numbers seem to be 'about' the cc's size.. I didn't bring a tape measure, but the bar on that 539 is longer than my 16 inch bar is, might be 18 or 20.

I didn't heft it either to see about feel since i don't have the dough yet anyway. My little no touch policy, unless I got cash in pocket.

Husqvarna Chain saw quests??

Mac, Dad bought a Husky after Hurricane Gustav. I'm not certain of the model number but I know it is an 18". I have an 18" Homelite Timberman and he leaves me in his sawdust with new chains on both machines. The only saw in the same class that will beat it is a Stihl. A friend of mine bought one after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We both cut very large trees from our hunting lease roads. That saw is an animal! It was throwing chunks of sawdust as big as peanuts and cut nearly twice as fast as mine. I just thought I had a good saw. He paid over $300 while my wife paid $149 for mine. As was stated here before, "You get what you pay for".

Husqvarna Chain saw quests??

I think I'll pick up a new chain like you said Mac, thats what Ive always done in the past, I think they are about $28-30. here. I'll get a few seasons out of it since I really don't cut a lot with it. The old chain is still quite sharp as I file them regularly but its stretched right out. My Stihl also throws out good size chips and cuts fast. My automatic oiler seems to drip even when the saw is just sitting, but it works.
When I got my saw they where about $625.00 here, but other than replacing the clutch because it rusted up from cutting ice Ive never had a bit of trouble with it.

I own a Husqvarna riding mower but I own a Stihl chainsaw. Both brands are good.

Husqvarna Chain saw quests??

My saw cuts wood like a hot knife in butter, and I will be very dissapointed to buy a new to me used saw that is heavier and cuts no better. That is what i am trying to get figured in my alledged head.

There is a harder working class Husky called rancher in the 400 series that has frills I could care a less of.. i don't meed felling guide marks and that sort of thing. I have been droppin trees for a long time..

With my 120 super Sachs Dull Bar with only a 16 inch bar I dropped and sliced and diced a really big red oak. It was about 4 feet across, and really made me work.

That one was down in Md, and loaded with lead bullets from the Civil War. That one tree produced 3 and 3/4 cords of wood. A cord to me is 4 feet high, 4 feet wide, and 8 feet long, stacked yankee, so a squirrel can run thru, but a cat can't.

Due to the location I was unable to measure that one for tall. Another pre Civil War tree there was 36" at the felling cut and 79 feet tall on the ground from the cut. Showing off I drove a 4x4 post deep into the ground..

Soft lead bullets are a royal pain as they adhear to the cutters,,,, Worse is a pink quartz rock, I found in what was called the last Burkittsville Cherry. Not all that big of a tree either, but maybe 80 years before some kid put a pretty good mellon size hunk of that rock in the triple crotch of that tree and I couldn't see it, so cut right there. That'll kill a new chain.

When I was a lad i worked in the woods with bigger saws, and would carry 2 chains extra and a bar in my pack. When I pinched a saw it was no problem to pull the power head and get my bar and chain back.

I learned that lesson loosing a days work to go get another saw, after I pinched mine in the first wedge cut. That tree was split from lightning, and squated down on my bar and chain..

Anyone with a saw needs a spare chain and bar IMO...
