2016 Summer Games in Rio

After the huge "sacrifice"(as she put it), Michele, Oprah and Obama made flying to Copenhagen to campaign for the 2016 Olympic Games in Chicago, the windy city was eliminated on the first ballot. Hmmm, I wonder if the Olympic Committee got wind of how politics work in Chicago? Or maybe it was the insult of it being such a sacrifice to visit Copenhagen? ???

Probably went to Rio because no apologies were needed for the way their country has treated the world. Even after all the apologies for the way the US treats the world.............El Presidente Obama couldn't get the Olympics here..........maybe he needs to offer more apologies............

It appeared to be a no-brainer that RIO would get the nod for the Olympics. They have never had one and the U.S. has had somewhere around eight of them.

This is a period of time where the "emerging-markets" of the world are beginning to "emerge" and become a force to be reckoned with.

Being from Illinois... you can bet the Chicago-political-machine was working overtime to get the Olympics -- and not all of the citizens of Chicago and Cook County were happy about it. Although there was supposedly an insurance policy to cover any overruns in the costs... you can just about bet the citizens of Chicago were going to have to pay-out something -- and this is during a time when they have the highest sales tax in the nation -- and some of the highest property taxes in the nation.

Not a real happy group over in Chicago...

I agree Greg, Rio deserved winning the 2016 games and they will make it a point to prove it to the world when the games begin.

Just read that it cost us $1.2 million for that "supreme sacrifice" round trip. Add that to the ticker.

But it is better in Rio than Chicago too, less violence there.
Too many insurgants occupy Chicago and are actively attacking and killing civilians in the area. Scares tourists.

Over $1.2MM. He spent more time with the IOC than he did with the General in Afghanistan discussing the need for a troop surge. And he still needs a few weeks to think that over!

Well, I love the olympics, but I'm also glad Rio got the nod. The Big O doesn't actually have the pull or popularity everyone thinks he has, at least not outside the U.S. Rio's also a place I've always wanted to vacation at.

The Big O doesn't actually have the pull or popularity everyone thinks he has, at least not outside the U.S. Rio's also a place I've always wanted to vacation at.
