Hello from Bartlett, TN

I've been hanging out here for a while and have made a few posts, but never did the formal introduction thing that I can remember. Now that I finally got an avatar and sig pictures I thought it would be a good time for an introduction. Some of you may know me from the Strictley ACE forum where I went by ProgressMan many a moons ago....RB #130. I was also a regular on the Delphi Vulcan forum for some time. I'm on my 2nd Nomad now. My recent motorcycle history went something like this, with old sig pics so you can identify...
  • 2001 ACE 750 - back in the saddle again [/*:m:fkr0klmg]

  • 2002 Nomad Red/Black - This bike can take me anywhere! [/*:m:fkr0klmg]

  • 2005 Honda Goldwing - Honda Hoot = Goldwing lust = goodbye Nomad :'([/*:m:fkr0klmg]

  • 2008 Nomad Red/Black - Wife hated Goldwing [/*:m:fkr0klmg]

So I plan on staying on the Nomad for a long time. I'll try to post more here as this is the forum I mainly follow now. Hopefully I can eventually make it to one of the rallys.

Another welcome from AZ.! As a former 'Wing' owner, I thought that was unusual for the passenger to not like it. Welcome to the "Nation"!

Welcome from Mississippi, and as another former wing rider I also find it hard to believe that your wife didn't like the wing my wife loved ours but I am short and couldn't touch the ground so I bought a Nomad. Give me a yell sometime maybe we can ride together as I am only 50 miles south of Memphis. The South Central Region is going to have a little get together next month maybe you could join us.

Well, my wifes problem with the wing was two-fold. The main reason was the wind. It's pretty well known that there is a big wind issue with certain height passengers where the wind comes off the lower fariring right up in their face. I tried everything to fix it...bigger windshield...baker air wings, and I could get it to stop for the most part. The problem was that with all the stuff in place to stop it I would roast like a dickens in the summer because I would not get any wind AT ALL, so I would have to let some through. Every time we road she would mention the wind problem and how the Nomad did not do that.

She also was not ready to admit that she was "old enough" to ride on a Wing. Mid-life crisis I guess...but her Dad had a Wing and she still thinks it's an "old man's" bike. The wind was the main problem but this just pushed it over the edge.

Really, I was fine getting rid of the Wing. My work has been killer pretty much since I got it in 2005 and my big plans to ride all over creation fizzled. I just felt like it was a waste of money if I didn't use it to it's potential. I really only miss 3 things on it. 1. The POWER...hard NOT to miss that. 2. Real cruise control. 3. The integrated radio/CB/rider comm.

At least I've had the "best" touring machine out there so I have that out of my system. Maybe one day when I slow down (retire) I will be back on a Wing riding all over this great country of ours.
