I took off the windshield and removed the mounting brackets. That allows you to slide it down. It's not bad, just go slow.

There are 4 bolts that tighten the inner shield. They are pretty easy to identify. Loosen them and use something sturdy that wont scratch the windshield (I use a piece of wood)and push it down from the inside (back of the windshield). Make sure you adjust you windshield to the height you want it first. The small inside shield will go all the way down to the top of your headlight and block a lot of wind.

Thanks fellas, found the problem. One of the rubber spacers had stuck to the mounting and was like glued in place. That wont happen again. It was not going to slide for nothing.

Just don't do it if the windshield is dirty. Any dirt between them when you slide scratches the lexan. Ask me how I know

docs right. I got rid of mine just because it would trap dirt in there and I felt it was useless.

+1
Took mine off as well since it will never be used, at least by me. Have to trim windshield to be able to look over.
If you decide to remove it, you'll have to add spacers to take up the appx width of lower.
Ace Hdwe has 1/8" nylon spacers that work great.

I took mine apart and painted the backside of the windshield where the slider is. Now when soap and stuff gets between the slider and shield you can't see it. I don't have to take it apart and clean it each time I wash the bike ;)

TC i like that idea to hide the water spots. So you painted the lower windshield(inside) NOT the slider piece? Thx.

Great minds, thought of that when I got the thing apart and noted what was up, think I will us the black tint you use on car or truck tail lights. Also added anti seize to the four mounting bolts. One of mine what torked to the max, and of course the allen stripped. Glad the easy outs are in my tool kit.

I've adjusted mine three times. Each time I added a couple of scratches. I thought it was really clean, used windex and a paper towel but it still scratched.

Thats right Doc, I painted the inside of the shield. Taped it off so only the part that shows in front of the slider was painted. If you paint the inside of the windshield even if soap gets down in between the slider it is still hidden by the paint.
If you paint the slider and soap gets down in there between them you can still see the soap as it is in front of the slider and in back of the shield.
I leave my windshield all the way down.
If any one paints theirs like this you must be real careful not to slide the pieces on each other or it will scratch the painted part and look like crap.
metricjunkie , I don't know how dark the black tint you use on car or truck tail lights is. If it is transparent you will still be able to see the water spots.

Thanks John, I ordered a sheet of carbon fiber look alike vinyl from ebay. Cut it into sections and applied it then went around each section with silver pinstripe tape. I tried to do one section on each bag but it kept wrinkling. It came out pretty good but I bought some top rails to install and don't think the vinyl and rails will look good together. I am going to have to remove the vinyl when it is time to install the rails.
Sorry for the long post,I have a tenancy to ramble on. ::)
