New rear tire on 2003 1500fi
Hey guys,
Sorry to start another tire thread, but I couldn't find the threads I knew were out there. I am needing to replace my rear tire, and am looking at my options. I am considering both options (MC or CT). I need input from you all. I have been reading the threads on darkside, and like it. I have two questions: 1. Suggestions on the best tire to replace mine with if I go MC. 2. Suggestions on the best tire if CT -- Keeping in mind, I don't pull a trailer, I live in Nebraska, where there are hills, but not a lot of mountains, and I would like to continue to get good mpgs. Thanks in advance!

I could not find a CT that would fit the 1500FI rear wheel when I did tires back in January. I think you're out of luck on that one Doug....Rich

Guys have put a car tire on the rim but Im not sure what brand. Id avoid a Metzeler as they don't seem to be the tires they once were. There is a darkside forum that will help you decide which tire will work best.

So far as I know the Dunlop Sport Sp 5000 in 195/60 R 16 fits and has clearance. That IS the same tire I run on my 1600 and so does CJ.
The main difference for you is the rim is more narrow, but someone here took pics and you would be number 2 on a 1500 if you do this. i can't recall who right now, but I know whom ever hasn't gone from here either. Now I live in the mountains of New England... I ride roads on that CT that others going with me get pissed off about the rate of speed, the way the roads go UP then Down and around some of the sickest twists in America. A CT will deal with that IMO better than a MC tire will on a Nomad. In fact you just might find yer ol' self scraping the boards under yer feet off the bike! The key thing is on a Nomad... So far and that is with 5000 miles on my Ct there is no appreciable wear on the tire, and I got 7,000 on the brick and rode it in late fall to apx 9000 not exactly legal and not exactly comforting to me either, but I wanted the newest rubber i could buy and so waited to Spring of last year instead of Winter of last year. braking is better, handling is better, the ride is better, What tar snakes are you guys talkin about, paint what paint? wire bridges are better than there were, and so is that high way figure 8 grind thing they do... About the only bad thing happens when i brake too hard and then my teeth want to sprout wings! It might eat apx 2 MPGS because you get MORE Traction... On a 1600 it is the same tall as stock. On a 1500 I forget, and if this is taller than stock and or taller than what you have now you will improve MPGS.. You have too if the rear is any taller.

Yeah, I knew someone had and I had read that thread, Mac. And, like yourself, I could not remember who, or what thread.
