Quick release bolts for hard bags
Does anyone know where we could get the 4 quick release bolts for the saddle bags of a 1600 Nomad? Someone on the forum said they made them but can't seem to find who that was or where to locate any for our bike. Any help would be appreciated.

What I have been doing here is. Go get yourself 4pcs of 5/16 rod 2" long and just you or have someone weld each one on the head of each bolt.
Simple, cheap and very easy.

There used to be lots of these on eBay, but none these days. Gadget has a page of do-it-yourself options at:

Hey chuckster,
Thats a really good idea about the 2"long rod and welding it to the factory bolts. I guess its one of those cases that I couldn't see the forest for the tree moments but your idea is a keeper. I will give that a try. Thanks Butch |

You can also go to Home Depot and get yourself four small plastic knobs, I cut the head off the bolts that hold the saddlebag or seat on, thread them to match the threads in the knob, and screw it together with a bit of loctite.

Hey Trip,
I looked on Ebay but couldn't find any. That doesn't mean there wasn't any just I couldn't find them. I bought a set for my 1500 Nomad 4 years ago but can't find or remember the guys name that was making and selling them. He made the T bolts for the 1600 also but like I said I can't find his name or any contact info. Maybe someone here knows the guys name. Maybe he makes them still or maybe he stopped, I don't know. Something will come along or I'll do what chuckster suggested. Thanks Butch |

Gadget's link is the best way to make them. They don't cost all that much to do it that way, either.

Quick release bolts for hard bags
Hey Butch,
I have a couple of sets of bolts like on Gadget's site. I put a set on my bike and they work great. If you're intersted I'll take 10 bucks + shipping. Send me a PM if interested. |

I used the OEM bolts. Went to Home Depot, bought 4 weed trimmer line feed knobs took out the bolts, put the OEM in. Thank I used that clay epoxy and squashed it into the top and let it dry, works great. Cost about $10.00 or so.

I bought a set on e-bay about a month or six weeks ago, they'll be back.
I don't know how I got along without them, love em, they're great.

Checked the completed auctions on eBay. I got mine by finding a completed auction and then asking the seller if he had any more. He put up a buy it now auction and I got them. Probably doesn't want to pay the fee of listing them over and over, not knowing if there is a buyer out there.
