Cam Chain Tensioners Installed
I spent almost the whole day tinkering with the bike, I started by installing the cam chain extenders, its not to bad of a job to do, it went exactly as described in gadgets article. It sure quietened the sound of the engine compared to before. Although the chains were not rubbing on the spark plug tubes, there was no more adjustment left in the tensioners. I just turned 56,000 miles earlier this week, so I don't know if I can expect another 56,000 with these extenders,(I doubt it) but it would be nice.

Nice job. It's always satisfying when you complete maintenance like that.

Good job, Ring. Did you have any trouble with the one on the front jug? I've heard it's the worst one to get to. I have 42,000 miles on my 2001 and I ordered the extenders from Chuckster since I was starting to get a lot of rattles from the engine, but haven't tried doing the task yet. Guess I will be giving it a shot soon. I need to get some of that red high temp Loctite.

I started with the rear cylinder, and by the time I had it on and off , I had spent about 45 minutes, but I was putzing around a lot. The front cylinder was done start to finis in 20 minutes flat. I didn't find it any harder than the other one. I used a zip wheel on my die grinder to cut the peice off the tensioner, it only takes a few seconds with that tool.
