Comparision HD RK vs Nomad

I've recently decided to sell my 06 RK and move up to a Nomad. I love the look of the bike but thus far all I've been able to do is sit on one. Can anyone here comment on the noticable ride/performance differences between the two?

the nomad is a large FEELING bike. It rides good, handles good, stops good. It seems to run about the same as my HARLEYS, but in a different way; the Harleys have loads of low end torque, and the Nomad doesn't. It is built for higher rev's, but once you get used to it, it runs about the same. You'll want to get a power commander, airkit, and exhaust right away, then she'll start to act like a Nomad should!I like the saddle bags way better than Harleys, and for me, the seat is actually good from the factory! I put a harley fairing on mine, mostly 'cause I wanted the tunes; it's not a hard thing to do, if you want. As soon as I wore out my original tires, I put Metzelers on mine, and got rid of a slight "understeer", but that's just me!! good luck!

Dragon57, I bought an 07' Nomad and then got an 07' HD ultra classic. I think the fairing on the harley is too much for that bike. It feels like it makes it mushy and it buffets way more than the Nomad. When you put the fairing on the Nomad did it buffet as bad as the Harley? I am thinking of keeping the Nomad and getting rid of the Harley. But I liked the stereo. I think the Nomad has a little less torque than the harley but it is not enough to make a difference imo. The Nomad is slightly more top heavy. And of course the Harley throbs more. T.

My Nomad seemed to buffet around 70-80 mph. I made custom lowers that come up to the turn signals, and wings for the batwing fairing, and that cured it. you can buy both, if you'd rather, but I made mine from smoke colored plex, to match my black paint. If you use the harley fairing on Nomad, you'll run into radio opening size issue, unless you use a Harley radio. OR, you can visit HawgWired website, and buy a bezel to adapt a single din sized car/boat radio to fit the Harley opening. I used marine radio in mine; I like it; used 4 speakers; 2 factory Harleys, and 2 marine 3 1/2" where Harley used to have speedo, and tach; sounds good.

I have the HD fairing on my '05 Nomad 1600 and a radio module mounted to the handlebars. Has 2 speaker, am/fm, cd/mp3 player, remote controller (never use it), amplified antenna mounted on top of module (mounts flat on top), face plate is removable. I have no wind buffeting issues.

buffeting is when the wind comes around your windshield/fairing, and causes a "gusting" effect to shake your helmet, upper body, etc.
It gets very annoying, and makes you fatigue much quicker.

thank you dragon57. As large as my windshield is right now I don't think anything can get around it. However now I know why my neck used to bother me on my VN750 - buffeting.

I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear. When I said the Harley buffets more I ment the movement in the handlebars from the wind and oncoming vehicles and following behind. My Nomad has very little of that compared to the HD. Head buffeting is nonexistant on my Harley T.
