loping when decelerating
???I just did a cadman kit and put on a Vance and Hines Fuelpak and have tried several different settings to get my 07 Nomad running right but when I am slowly decelerating going down an incline my bike lopes or jerks whatever the right word would be for it, I am running Vance and Hines Baggers and am trying to set it up to run unbaffled but even with the baffles in it still wants to lope just not as bad, also when I have the bike running in neutral and hold the throttle in one position it dont run steady it kinda surges, if anyone has any ideas please let me know, Im starting to think I just spent alot of money and time for a headache ???

Did you cap the tubes that the hoses from the air solenoids connect to? Sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

yes I capped the tubes, I called Fuelpak tech support today and they gave me another setting it is getting better but I think I still have some tunning to do on the Fuelpak, probably should have went with the TFI.

Look long and hard for a vacum leak. I put V&H Duals, Cobra FI2000R and Hyper-charge Air kit on my 07 a couple years back and spent a week with same "surg-y-ness" (is that a word?) and had decided my FI controler was bad before we figured out that I had not put a hose clamp on one of the lines I pluged with a bolt and it was sucking air. It ran good when I was on the throtle but when I'd back off the vacum would come up and it would act up like you describe

you get a settings sheet and the fuelpak has 33 modes that you run through and set, I called fuelpak and the tech had me change a couple of settings and the loping has just about went away I just took it for another test ride and it is getting alot better, I am trying to set it for running with no baffles till my freind get done with my ultimate baffles and I think running unbaffled is costing me a little power. |

I read the link, and wonder if there is any explinations for modes?
Like which modes run at what demands? Which modes run at idle, which run as if there was a high demand for power? Which are for high way cruise and which are again for higher RPM passing demands? Perhaps some are for sencors and alter info given to the stock ECU. I agree with no baffels you are loosing low end torque and power. Running with no baffels is asking to be running at wide open throttle all the time, and no one can and no one does on any roads we all ride on.. How did you find such an odd fuel modual in the first place? The problem I see is they say their engineers have done all the hard part for you, and no testing on a Dyno is needed and seemingly possible. For sure with nothing to tell a tech what mode 1 does to mode 33 there is no telling what happens and when... Somewhere this info must exisit....... I hope. The lope can be a vacuum leak, and or can be too rich mix, but just slightly, and so it burns off untill next time. The thing is I can't tell you squat with out knowing what mode does what and when. What ever they tell you document it in writting so 90 days from now you can look up the notes as memory is going to be very good on this sort of thing...

What Macmac is saying (if I may paraphrase) is you are probably the only member here that has tried the V&H Fuelpak and none of us has any experience with it.
The Dobeck TFI and Cobra FI2000R are probably the most popular, with the DynaJet PCIII in third place. We just have no familiarity with the V&H product.

Ok I had to make a couple of adjustments and in the bottom end it is still a little low on power, but in cruising and in power it running great, I am still running no baffles till I get my ultimate baffles done, for anyone that is interested the Vance and Hines Fuelpak is easy to install and setting the modes is real easy, but when they test it in the lab they have settings for either a stock air filter or for the Thunder air and our Caddman Mod puts our bikes somewhere in between, but all it takes is a call to their tech support and reset a couple of modes and it runs great,
For anyone who is interested I bought the fuelpak thru Dennis Kirk and the price is around $240 and on a scale of 1-10 I give it a 7. And sometimes it good to be the one who tries something different! |

Well I am a sort od odd duck maybe, but when a device is made I expect to know the why of how it works, or I don't want it.
When it comes to fuel chips, I want one of two things... To be able to set to any bike with what ever is on it by the seat of my pants, taking the time to raod test settings to find a best over all, and or dyno run it. There is no dyno near me now, but I ran them back in the stoneage to earn a lving. I was doing diagnostics before there was any kind of dyno, so I can still do what one does. So what it is I don't like is depending on some engineer. Maybe not your bike, but a day will come when someone wants info on something the engineers didn't get to test. On that day either no one will have and get answers, or the info for these 30+ settings will be made public. For all I know this info is out there now and I just don't know it. So in no way am I being critical, but I enjoy lending a hand in times I can, so my dissappointment lays in I can't assist you.
