Another TFI question
I looked on Gadget's site, and the TFI installation instructions are for the slice and solder type. I have a plug and play module coming....and two questions:
1) Do I need to remove the gas tank on an '03 FI Nomad to get to the injectors? 2) Where are those fuel injectors at? I've never had to deal with any fuel injected stuff before. My knowledge of fuel systems goes back to the old carburated days. Thanks, Mark... Login or Register to Remove Ads |

There is a fuel injector for each cylinder, in the area between the cylinders up near the top. They are fairly close together. Not hard to find with the tank off. I think I did mine (2007 1600) without removing the tank. I just removed the bolts holding it down and lifted the end nearest the seat and propped it up with a block of wood or something.

Well, on the 1600's they are behind the top of the air filter assembly on the left hand side. Right between the cylinders. I expect they are probably in the same location on the 1500's.

Another TFI question
Hi, It is easier to install the TFI with the tank off. Thats how I did it on my 05. You might be able to get at them with the tank raised at the rear, not sure of that. Try it first and see.
The injectors are on the manifold between the top of the cylinders. Easy to locate when you have the new TFI in hand and look at the connectors. They will match connectors on the injectors. Make sure you do one injector at a time and disconnect the existing wiring and plug it into the new TFI harness one at a time. Make a note of your existing wiring and make sure that the injector wiring connector that goes into the front cylinder goes back on the front cylinder via the new TFI harness. You will figure it out once you start. I dont think it matters which one of the connectors you pick on the new TFI harness to go to the front cylinder, just make sure the existing front cylinder connector goes on the new TFI connector that you put on the front cylinder. Hope that makes sense ! |

You will atleast need to raise the tank to get at the plug ins on the injectors, and access the battery, and related battery area wiring. The new plug and play set up has a longer lead for ther farthest injector, but if the leads were the same it wouldn't matter which injector you plugged into.
I beleive the pot numbers have changed locations on the face of the dial, but over all the system is identical in operation, and the gain is simplicty of installation, with less soldering. The injectors are a light robins egg blue plastic between and on top of the engine almost nestled down slighty under the main frame on the intake manifold. These are in the same places whether or not the bike is a 1500 or a 1600. I think your bike is 1500 by the straight looking gas tank. If you have dual dog bowls which I can't tell since I can't see the left side, it might make for more room to work if the air filter and backing plate are removed on the left. If there is a horn or some other accessorie there it may or not allow for more working room.. Off the top of my head I know I am missing a few more wires, but I can look it up if you need it. I think there is 6 wires over all.

Raise the tank is exactly what I did. It only required a little extra effort, and I don't have small hands. You can support the tank with a block of wood and it will allow plenty of room.
The injectors are yellowish, off whiteish, cermaic/plastic looking things high and between the jugs. Pull the harness carefully and compare it to the TFI plug-in. They should look the same.

Thanks everyone. I'll give it a shot with just propping the tank first. UPS won't deliver till Monday. By then I'll have my filters and everything I need to do the mod. I'll report back.
Again....thanks, Mark... |
