Buell Motorcycles
We, as motorcyclists, are living & riding in some amazing times. From the GoldWing to the Huyabusa, The KLR650 to the BMW 1200GS, Victory to Ural and Royal Enfield, there is something out there for everyone.
A marque I have followed with great interest is Buells. Most people say, "just a gussied up Sportster" or "too far out styling". I say look deeper. The enging is NOT just a Sportster. The heads are completly different as the cams and ignition and fuel managment. They have power that your normal 1200 Sportster dreams of. Oozing torque down low and winds out great. The cooling fan is noisy, but the rear cylinder stays so much cooler that it is worth it. The fuel is in the frame and the front brake is awesome. They have a chambered exhaust that is quiet but when the throttle opens, has a nice growl. I like these bikes not just because they are so different; I like them because a guy saw a need to TRY something different. A co-worker friend has a XB12X and I am very impressed with this machine. Good on road, not too bad off road either! I look at it as the ultimate adventure bike. AND ... It is made in the USA!! Lots of people buy BMW for adventure bikes that run 15 - 19 K dollars and that sends our money overseas. I know, the Nomad is a Japanesse bike and I do love it. But a Electra Glide is a easy 18K and it was just out of our budget. But if you at a bike event, take a few minutes and look at a Buell. It is a unique machine that is made here that deserves more respect than it gets now. As much as I talk of owning a KLR650, If I stumble into a XB12X .. for the right price .. I just might buy it!
