FMB apehangers
Was looking on the FMB site and came across the FMB ape hangers to fit the Vaquero and in the specs they state that no changes to any cables or wires are needed. Has anyone tried out these bars and if so can you do a complete lock to lock turn without hitting the fairing and if so how was the comfort for the wrists. Have checked the search but have not found any info on these bars and on their site no one has submitted any reviews. Any info and opinions would be appreciated.

There was a member here who had FMB bars... He has moved on to another bike, so may not check in very often. I will see if he can be contacted via others means to log in and give his report...

Thanks Smokier. I would really appreciate if you could find him so I could get a report on his findings. Very little bar choices available for our rides. On another subject did you get your headlight mod done?

I had purchased a pair, but returned them. Didn’t like the way they felt. In fact once I changed to a mustang seat the stock bars are perfect. However, the FMB bars sit abou 3-4 inches higher, but have about 3 inches less pull back. The owner is very easy to work with and doesn’t charge a restocking fee.

Hey ballbreaker, I also tried a set of this bars and were not happy with the wrist angle. Not enough pullback causing me to have to reach forward. I installed a set of Chuckster's risers and changed to an Ultimate Seat and these 2 changes made a world of difference. I have since sold the Voyager and am now on a Goldwing trike. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Bukd2rat. One question on Chucksters rises. I had them on my Nomad and they worked slick. No cable or wiring extensions needed. What size of risers did you put on and were they good for stock cables and wiring and no fairing rubbing doing a full lock to lock turn. Thanks. By the way I talked to my dealer yesterday who just finished installing a set of FMB ape hangers and the customer said the same thing about the pullback and wrist comfort. Probably won't try them. Hard to find some nice apes for our Vaquero/Voyageur that don't require a lot of changes or fabrications

Using Chuckster's risers will place the Handlebars closer to the fairing when doing a full lock to lock turn. My handlebars just barely touched, but they did touch.

I will be doing the headlight mod in a couple of weeks. waiting for the garage to be a bit warmer... Still trying to get ahold of the previous Vaq owner. What I remember is that the fit-n-finish was disappointing to him. He liked the looks and position, as I recall. Not sure about the lock-to-lock turn/bump/interference... Ride safe, Smokier |

Thanks for the updateBud2rat. Thanks for the reply Smokier. Keep us informed on the progress of the headlight install. I am looking at doing it my self this spring. Minus 30 celius this morning so I know what you mean about warming up the garage.

IMG_20180114_165744125.jpg About 1" tall with a tapper. And 1/2" ID hose. Slide this over the steering stem stopper, welded to the frame above the radiator. It will automaticly stop the handle bars at full turn, a bit. Should be enough to avoid the bars hitting the fairing. Use hair spray inside of the hose as lube to slide it on and it should stay as the hairspray dries. Mine is still there after a year and 5,000 miles. Not my idea, but a member turned me on to it (Bluemeanie ) . A great fix for me.
