Amps

anyone know anything about amps, i can get sound out either the left or right but not both at the same time, (sound out of left if switch wire around, and right if i switch wires again) checked all wires and all are strong correct conections. i'm thinking its the amp, i did notice the other day it was getting pretty hot (which they arent supposed to) and its three years old.... speakers are both working, just not at the same time.. ::)

Every amplifier I've ever seen generates a lot of heat, that's why they put cooling fans and heat sinks on the bigger ones.

Which wire are you switching around, you lost me there. Input or speaker wires?

Amps

sounds like one channel on the amp my have blown....is there a balance on the amp? ....if so, check to see if the right and left channel are working....if they are not, lots of times each side is fused somewhere in the amp..

Here I is!
Have you added any speakers? If you've got an ohm inbalance it make an amp do some pretty freaky things...like work on each side independently, but when all speakers are connected the load is just too much.
Although it does sound possible that your amp has simply failed.
I'm assuming this is home stereo stuff?

no its on the nomad, just two 50w and the amp is 100w, i do have it direct wired with the Sirius kit and have it plugged into an acess. outlet on the bike, it was working fine until last weekend i noticed it sounded like i was only getting sound out of one speaker and sure enough when i checked this weekend only one side was working. i do have it plugged in and when i pull the brake i can hear a pop coming through the good speaker. dont know if that could be the problem

So if you plug the left speaker into the right amp out it works and if you plug the left speaker into the left amp out it works and vice-versa?
Also, what model amp is it? Perhaps I can pull up some specs and that will help me wrap my brain around it.

Sounds like the power supply is faltering. Has enough to drive one speaker but not both. Even though there are 2 seperate processors, they still share the one power supply.
You could try to switch the input filter just to see what it does, but if it was me I'd just replace it. I see there are several on ebay right now starting at around $18.00 opening bid.
