how do i get one? the blanks i bought off of ebay didn't work out...i went to napa and the guy messed one up. not his fault...he warned me that he wasn't real good with bike keys. oh well. the kaw dealer said i needed "codes". so how does one go about getting a replacement key? when i bought the bike all i was given was one key.

The code is on a metal tag on the key ring with the original keys. It's gone. Forget it.
Take that key blank and good key to a real locksmith. He'll make one that actually works, and he might be able to fix the one the NAPA guy made, and it'll cost less than the dealer. |

My key had a code on it for the blank style. There is a guy on ebay that if you contact him, he can get the right blank for you to take to a locksmith. I got lucky and a local locksmith had the blanks that would work in stock. Cost me $10 for two keys.

Yup. Locksmiths are one time when it can really pay to go to a professional.

I have a buddy who is a master locksmith and fixed me right up with a couple of spares.....
You shouldn't have a problem if you find a locksmith shop (not a hardware store or Home Deposit/Lew's) but if you do let me know and I can see about getting the blanks from my buddy and sending them out to you.

I got an extra key made at the dealer. It worked and I figured if he screwed it up, it was his problem. He did well the first time. The cost was $9.75. To much. You would think for what you pay for a bike, you would get more then one key with it. Ah, customer service these days. I wonder where that went too?

My 06 came with two keys from the dealer. I bought an extra blank from the dealer. I don't remember how much I had to pay for it but I do remember that I thought it was kind of high. Dealer couldn't cut the blank so I went to a local Ace Hardware. They still have the old manual key cutting machines unlike Home Depot, et al, which have automated machines that can't do anything out of the ordinary. The guy at Ace wouldn't even let me pay for cutting the blank! By the way, I go there first for stuff now.

I guess I'm lucky, I have a locksmith who works for me. Had a fair bit to do with them over the past 25 yrs and over here there is a very big skill and knowledge gap between the good ones and the bad. When I picked up my bike (2nd hand) the guy had 3 keys, given I have relocated the bike 3 states away I'm pretty confident the 4th,5th or 6th key wont be used. Just a prompt for anyone who is buying second hand!Get a good front wheel lock as well.

A local dealer did not have the equipment to cut the key even with the code. But, he was willing to sell me a Kawasaki blank for only $12.00. Now that's customer support.
I went to a locksmith instead. $4.00 |
