Female Power Port ?

For some time I've been frustrated about not having a power port on my bike, to power GPS, etc. I've managed to get by by finding outlets in Starbucks, McDonald and camp sites, but now I've had enough.

I was thinking that I'd get one, take my tank off, wire it in properly... then a revelation! Searching on eBay I found a 12v power port that runs off a battery tender type connection, which I have dangling under my seat!

My question is... has anyone used one of these? Sounds like a good $10 solution with no removal of gas tank and other pain-in-the-ass installation required... just plug in and use as required, remove when not needed.

Would be a hot shot straight off the battery, but I think the Battery Tender brand has a 20 amp fuse in the leads. I would investigate the ability to protect your electronics with this set-up. Personally, I wired in an auxillary fuse block and receptacle.

Female Power Port ?

I wired my port to the aux plug in the headlight shell.Plenty of juice for a GPS.The only other thing I need to run is a small air compressor which draws too much for the port.I cut the 12 v plug off of the air compressor and added a compatible plug for the battery tender connection.

Female Power Port ?

I bought the one from Kuryakyn (hope that is how it's spelled). It's beautiful chrome bullet shaped, mounted right on my handlebar. It has an inline fuse with a 2wire plug that matches my battery tender. I have the connector right behind my right side cover, so in the winter I just remove the cover and plug my tender in. It's a little pricey but it is definitely the sharpest one out there. Look at the third picture with the handle bar mount.http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/209...al-Power-Point

THat looks like a SAE to cigarette lighter power adapter. You can go to Powerlet.

Female Power Port ?

What's winter? LOL... I didn't quite understand that when I was living in CA. Now I see that they call it "fall" because of all the leaves (excuse to purchase gas powered leaf blower!).

Dave - move went well.. settling in here. Its very different. Have only been for one long ride, one night camping in northern Pennsylvania, through the lower parts of NY state and home. I miss the desert.. miss that ride through Caliente.. miss the ride through Idylwild... but next week I'm planning to hit Blue Ridge Parkway, so might not feel so bad !

Thanks for the comments re the power port.. I actually found that I had a battery tender cable with a fuse in it. The GPS charger itself has a 1A fuse in it, so I'm going to put a 1A fuse inline and see how it goes. The GPS power cord it a sealed unit... so if I blow that fuse it $40 for a new cable. D'oh!

Brian

We're planning to ride to Idylwild next weekend. Went by Cooks corner today. They had a 9-11 event going on. I didn't think there were that many motorcycles in all of California!

That ride we took with Jesus to the Sequoias will go down as one of the best. It's be hard to top.
