New Computer Scam?

Just though I would give everyone a heads up.

I got a phone call from some one yesterday claiming to be from some company hired to combat computer viruses and that my computer was infected and sending out viruses to others through what he called the international routing station.

He was quite convincing except he had such an east Indian type accent I could not understand what he was saying and made him repeat parts of what he was saying several times. I kept asking who he thought he was speaking to. My name came up but only as it was listed in the phone book. he wanted me to turn on my computer so he could show me the worm and eradicate it.

I told him that if his company had a legitimate problem with my computer, to deal with it through my Internet provider ( Which I did not reveal ). I ended the conversation by suggesting he might want to also consider using some one who actually speaks a form of language they can understand.

I then called my Internet provider who told me this phone scam is rapidly gaining in popularity and getting lots of complaints in Canada. They basically call numbers from the white pages of the 411 directory and have one of two objectives, get inside you computer and plant a virus and then sell you a program to fix it, and /or rip off your personal information.

New Computer Scam?

We do have one but it doesn't seem to work that well here.

Scamers don't pay attention to a do not call list, that would be obeying the law.
