Brake Lights Won't Work
Hi All,
I just noticed that my brake lights are not working. The lights will come and stay on when I start the bike. However, once I press the brake lever (hand or foot) the lights are not getting brighter like they should. I wanted to know if anyone had any advice on where I should start to resolve this problem. It is most likely your brake switch sticking, check and clean the switch by the rh floorboard. if that doesn't fix it check the switch in the front brake lever. Its usually the back one that gets dirty and sticks.

Unplug the connector, and look at the end that goes to the bike, not the rear fender. One of the pins in that connector is your brake light circuit. The pin coming from the RED wire should be the brake light. Using a voltmeter or test light, ground the negative lead and touch the positive lead or probe to that pin with the key on while someone works either of the brake levers. The light should light or the voltmeter should read at least 12 volts when the lever is actuated. If it does, then it isn't your brake switches and you need to work your way backwards toward the taillight. Not knowing where your connection to the trunk lights are, I can't say what's going on there.

Good advice Scott, and Patrick, I would check the wires where you tied the tour pack lights into the Nomad's circuit. If you didn't solder them, they may have worked loose.

Also, how did you connect the lights on the tourpak to your motorccle wiring? Where is it spliced in and how?

Brake Lights Won't Work
Did it all work properly at one point, or is some of this a new installation?

As I hope the attached pictures shows, I spliced into the wires and connected the lights from the tour pak. |

Those scotch lok connectors that you used sometimes make poor connections when splicing, I try to avoid using them as much as possible for any long term connections. Check that you are getting power in and out of them. While they are convenient, they are known to cause problems in wiring.

Brake Lights Won't Work
As I asked in an earlier post, what was the outcome....was it something dumb like a bad bulb? Or something really special and hidden hard to trace....when someone presents a problem It would be great if they posted the solution instead of just failing to follow up....the suspense is killing me....Just ranting I guess.
