Happy Mother's Day!

I'd just like to wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother's Day! Today is my wife's first mother's day, and all the work she does for our daughter is phenonmenal. Her love and patience amazes me.
I'll also get to see my mom today. I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wouldn't have been for her influence.

My Mom has passed and we had a great relationship while she was here.
To all you guys and gals who's Moms are still with us, see them when ever possible and if not call them often to let them know how much you love them and appreciate what they have done for you. Time passes so fast!

today I had planned to ride the Nomad up to the cemetery to give mom flowers. White roses with red tips, her favorite. All suited up and realized I'd left the ignition on and killed the battery!

Unpacked the Nomad and put the flowers, tools to uncover the flower holder which is usually a b*tch to dig up at the cemetery and some CLR stone cleaner to clean up her headstone.

Mom died almost 13 years ago on my birthday. After about 3 years of mothers day visits I finally quit sobbing when I'd visit her. Today after I nuked the battery I drove up with my stuff madder an hell over what a duffus I was.

Got there and did the usual cleaning and arraigning her roses and was fine with it. I needed to walk across the cemetery to throw away the wrapper and paper towels I had used to clean her headstone. I came upon a new grave (new turf) and there was a little brown teddy bear on it and under it was a piece of paper. I told myself "don't even go there Brad" thinking is might be a child's grave.

Of course I didn't listen to myself and when I got there I looked at the headstone and it was a young man of 28 years. the teddy bear and the name "Michelle" stitched on the chest. I lifted the T-bear and read the note. It was a crayola drawing of a house and cat and dog with a fence and a girl with long hair and what appeared to be another child that looked like it could have been her brother playing with her in the yard.

The paper had written on the top "We miss you daddy". "We'll always love you".

There hasn't been too many times in my life where I was caught without being able to take a breath. I was KO'd. I retrieved a bottle of water from my truck and sat under a tree and was strickened with grief that I was not familiar with. Here I am pissed I screwed up my battery and here is this "Michelle" who put her teddy bear on her dad's grave with her note and I'M HAVING A BAD DAY???.

Life throw us flat tires, slipping clutches, blown seals and we usually throw a fit over it. I know I do. What a reality gut check this was for me today. I barely got home went online, ordered my battery and thought about Michelle all day today.

Michelle wherever your at honey, I'm so sorry you lost your daddy. That was a beautiful drawing. Though we've never met, you helped me today to understand the important things in life. I wish there was something I could do for you to easy the pain. :'(

Wow Brad! That's powerful!
Thanks for giving us some much needed perspective. I know I'll pray for Michelle and her family, although I have no idea who they are, God does. Children need their daddy and it breaks me up when death steals him away.

That was tough Brad. I know exactly how you feel. At the Trade Center Site there was a temporary memorial set up where the family hung pictures and notes to their missing loved ones. I took several pictures at the site and one note in particular from a child to the dad hit my gut and stayed with me for years after. I'll dig up the picture, scan it and post it for you all to read it. I'll more than likely bust up again when I find it. I read it in church after we returned from the first week and had everybody including myself sobbing uncontrollably. Thanks for sharing your story. It brings back memories.
