Fuel Leak Fixed - Now loss of power!!!
This L junction into my carb on the main fuel line is leaking badly. You can see a drop forming under the junction after running the engine for just a minute.
![]() I have replaced the fuel line, thinking it was just weathered (which it was a little). But it still leaks here just as bad. Can this plastic L fitting be replaced? I don't want to yank it out if it can't. What else coud be the problem? The bike runs/idles fine, so it doesn't seem like there is blockage there.... Anyone help? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

This is a total guess......
The fitting is a plastic and has weathered and been heated, and may be porous. Since it is not a part of ther main carb body in theory it is installed with o rings. If I were you I would go to the dealer and see if you can get the part. It isn't the best thing to ride there, but I am betting you can. If that idea bothers you, most any auto parts store has a gasoline leak temp fix stick. I don't know what it is made of, but it looks like a 1/4' x 1/4" x 3 " bar of amber. Fuel disolves this stick, and then as the residue dries it stops any leaks, like a stiptick stick stops bleeding when you get a nick shaving. As a guess I would get a new part before i tried to remove this part, since it is likely to break up in bits and pieces, and you will end up picking out small pieces with a bent scribe.

Fuel Leak Fixed - Now loss of power!!!
Hey Perryco;
If you take a look on cheapcycleparts.com under your year and carburator parts, they list an O-ring there under part # 92055. It lists for 1.92 and one is required. Hope this helps. Ride Safe. |

OK - gonna get a new fitting - looks like there is a brass replacement now that won't crack after exposure to heat and age. Gonna try the Harley Dealer down the road.
Thanks for the input guys |

Went to the local Harley Dealer and got the full brass replacement for $12 (no more plastice for this fitting). Running her now - we'll see how it goes.
![]() Thanks for the input - and mac you were correct. The original plastic fitting just broke apart when removing it. Had the other on hand. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Fuel Leak Fixed - Now loss of power!!!
So I put everything back together and now, I lose power above 2500-3000 rpm. Could the new brass fitting be changing the mix in the carb?
When I roll the throttle, it coughs/sputters after the above rpm range, then when I pull of the throttle, it almost dies and then comes back to steady idle. Help.... again ![]() ![]() |

Check to see if a hose or fuel line is kinked somewhere, It seems like something is starving itself and cant go to a higher rpm. This could be a vent line or vacum hose as well as a fuel hose. Also if you have a petcock check that it is flowing properly, I once had some crud partially block it on one of my older bikes.

Look at the line above where your brass fitting is located. There should be a line coming over the valve cover that attaches to the carb on the back side of the carb. Mine came off when I put a new fuel filter on or did my tensioner extenders. My bike didn't want to start up after winding it over for a while. When I put it back on it seems to have helped. I don't know what that line is for though. In the picture look at the end of my ink pin. That's the line that came off of mine.

You may have gotten some of the broken plastic fitting into the carb inlet. Also did any of the o-ring go into the carb. I would suspect something got into the inlet and is restricting the fuel flow.

The inlet is clear of any debris - Let me also say that I changed the engine oil and filter as well.
I looked up re-installation instructions on the VROC website and came across this pic - My carb doesn't have a tube coming out where his righ hand is pointing . ZOOM - is that the line you were referring to? Could that be the problem? ![]() Also - I just had the engine worked on by my dealer 500 miles ago with new cam chains, rings, rocker. Pulled my plugs yesterday and they were sooted and the rear cylinder ones had a little oil on them. Does that suggest anything? I'm not good with troubleshooting this stuff. |

Was the bike running fine up until the gas leak or has it never run good since you had all the work done it ?

This is the first year of owning this bike, so I would say it was running real good before this weekend.

That's the line that came off mine and I think it's a vent hose. Plugs shouldn't have oil unless you have blow-by. Does it smoke ? Maybe the guy dropped a plug and cracked the insulator. That would be a cheap fix just to try new plugs. JMO. Does your carb have a hole where that hose is shown in the picture?
