First and Last ride of the season

The weather finally got decent enough to ride (it hit 50 with sun). So, I took the bike out for about 50 miles. Once it stopped smoking from the fogging oil in the cylinders, it ran well. The only issues were that the fan seemed to come on quicker than I remembered and there is a small flat spot on the throttle just after clutch release so I probably need to adjust the Cobra pot 1.

I took the passenger seat off to see how it would look. I have to admit, I think I like it, plus, call me crazy, but the bike seemed to handle a little easier. Only thing i can think of is 10-15 pounds of chrome and seat at the highest point on the bike helped to lower the center of gravity just a bit. It's probably my imagination though.

Now, the sad part, that was my last ride of the season most likely. I am having shoulder surgery tomorrow and will be laid up for a minimum of 3-6 months, which if it goes 6 months, will put me smack in the middle of winter again.

Anyone know how to winterize a bike during the summer with one arm?

Hope everyone has a great riding season

That sucks, surgery in the spring like that. I hope it all goes well and you are back in the saddle in a couple months. You never know, you may progress quicker than they say.

Good luck with the surgery in any case.

Best wishes on your surgery. Too bad it wasn't scheduled for October so you could heal over the winter.

Good luck with the surgery and more importantly the recovery. I had it done in December. I attribute my ability to ride full time now due to adhering to a strict physical therapy program. Especially the stretching part.

Best to you...

With a positive attitude and doing all your therapy, I think you could be riding by August sometime. Good Luck with the surgery, sometimes things go better than expected, and this will be just an old memory.

Dadgumit! That just SUCKS! Things like that have to happen but that a shame. Guess you wil have to find a buddy close by and supervise the winterizing process. I am sorry you will miss out riding but I hope it will only be the 3 months and not the 6. Heal quickly and take care of your self. Hope you can type with one hand and keep us up on your recovery.

Been there done that, but don't be fool and over do the therapy like I did and have a set back. I had simple shoulder surgery in January I'm still going to therapy. The bright side is that now I can lift my arm high enough to give stupid cagers the finger ;)

Luckily, I had my surgery back when I was between bikes. Good luck and do what the doc says so your recovery will be as fast a possible.

tkd,

Good luck with the surgery. I guess you decided not to sell the bike, that's good news, it will be waiting for you. You can pour a can of Stabilize into the tank with one arm. Maybe get a trusted friend to ride it once in while, there may be some volunteers here.
