Gas Mileage For Carbed 1500 Nomads

This is for you carbed Nomad riders. How far can you go on a tank of gas? I usually stop and fill up at about 90-100 miles if I don't know where the next station is located. Going to work I usually stretch it to 115-120. Depending on wind, speed & traffic I have ran out early at 88 miles (80+ MPH towing a trailer) and also been up to 149 miles (cruising the smokies). I have never tested how far I can go till the reserve is dry. :-/ My book says I have a 16 liter tank (I guess thats 4.2 -4.3 gl). When the gauge shows empty it will take about 3.3 to fill it up.

Gas Mileage For Carbed 1500 Nomads

When my bike was stock it would get 33 mpg and after an exhaust change and re-jet and driving in similar conditions the mileage improved to 40 mpg. ;D I routinely get 33 to 35 mpg riding the slab back and forth to work. I can run up to about 120 miles before I need the reserve. If I slow down, go easy on the throttle and stay around 60 mph the mileage increases, however I'm not good at that; unless I'm 2up.

Bottom line: carbed 1500 Nomads ROCK! But they are not so great on gas mileage. But then again, gas mileage is not the reason I bought mine. :)
I usually hit reserve anywhere between 100 and 120 miles, depending on if I'm riding high mountain passes, or flat roads. Mileage definitely goes in the crapper if I run over 70 mph.
It is what it is. That's why I added the aux tank, to increase distance between fuel stops. Now I can go 250 miles between fillups.

That's good to hear. I thought mine was getting crappy gas mileage but it looks like on average it's about the norm.

I had a 650 Suzuki that got great mileage, but it wasn't much fun to ride. Head winds, ground speed and terrain seem to make the most difference to mileage. Of course, stop and go driving doesn't help, but I avoid that.

I can go about 160 solo, about 145 two up, about 125 pulling the trailer...these are all about as far as I would like to go. May be putting an auxiliary tank on before Custer.

I weigh in at about three and a half bills, so my bike is always 2-up.

I have been averaging about 33.6 Mpg.
I have never ran my tank dry, but it is currently at 117 miles and I have yet to switch to reserve.

My fuel gauge shows empty at about 90-95 miles. That is evidently WAY too soon.

Is a de baffle all you did, or did you re-jet too?
Also, is your goats belly guted or intact?

Thanks.

there is no need to rejet if you only do the debaffle. mine has not been rejetted and the goats bladder is still in tact, i am considering doing a dutch bypass instead of gutting the bladder that way it can be changed back if im not happy. if i go that way i will get the carb re jetted to get the most out of the old girl.

the de,baffle wont make the bike a lot louder but it will give it a lot better tone and a nice rumble on a trailing throttle. this should be compolsary before the bike leaves the dealership.

My 2000 is carbed and for the most part I get similar results. I usually have to switch to reserve between 100-120 and most often put in about 3.3-3.5 gallons. I got slightly better results living in Vermont out in the hill country, but now in VA Beach at sea level it isn't as good. I had thought that something was not right, but I guess it is right on par with most everyone else.

It would et slightly better if you would remove that dead weight from the tank seam. ;)

Nope, 160 with reserve on. I could push it but I don't want to run dry.
