V&H Heat Shield Extension
Anyone come up with a good method to extend the heat shield on the V&H bagger rear pipe on your Nomad? You know,to cover the ugly blue and gold corner on the back pipe under the passenger board!

V&H Heat Shield Extension
Maybe! Why should I share the info? Can't a guy have a one of a kind? Just kidding!!!
Go to any Bike Salvage Yard - see if they will let you scrounge thru the used pipe / muffler / shield area. Find a heat shield from a Suzi 800 ish cruiser ( they have tight bends at top) and pick one up - go home and rough cut the shield to size - then when you are happy - fine cut the edge and add silver paint to the edge so it won't rust. Oh, put the cut side to the inside! Don't worry if you only have one clamp holding the shield down as it is more than enough! |

V&H Heat Shield Extension
to each his own but let me see if i have this right.the welds crack,
the heat shield is too short and the baffles need to be modified so the V & H sound good.why are these pipes so hugely popular?

V&H Heat Shield Extension
People mess with the baffels because they can and easily...
Pipes may crack just from heat, and not many do, but since I was a foreign car tech I understand a few things about stress and heat and so installed 2 sets with no cracking. I am not sure how everyone else installs their head pipes. So I can't tell if there is a who who installed them incorrectly by method of labor or not. So my best guess is 1/2 of the pipes sets that did crack were installed wrong, and the other 1/2 just cracked. That missing chrome around the backside of the pipe is a pet peeve for everyone.. just the way it is, and V&H won't make a move to fix it. V&H chrome is good quality, and IMO better than Cobra, which I have seen rusting away on a great deal of other makes and models. That leaves RH, which I am not familar with, but will be soon. I won't know how good the chrime is because that takes time to find out. But that bike will reside in salty Rhode Island, and so we will live to see.

V&H Heat Shield Extension
I have had my V&H on for about 8 months now and haven't had any problems with them. I took the advice of several people on this site and didn't even try to snug up my head pipes before the install was complete.I had everything instaled and tightened before I torqued the headpipes. No cracking yet.
When I bought my V&Hs the Cobras with removable baffles hadn't come on the market so versatility was a big issue for me. |
