Tag Relocation

Hi All, I am knew to this forum. I have a 2006 Nomad. I have removed the backseat and backrest as my wife doesn"t ride.
I would like to know if I can move the tag down on the fender under the turn signal bracket.
Any info would be appreciated.
thanks-jerry

Welcome to the board Jerry. As long as the license is lighted at night, I don't think it would be problem to move. I guess that would be the only issue.

The tail light on the Nomad has the plate(tag) light on top. If you move it under the signal light bar it will not be lighted. You may have to rig a small light to be legal.
A lot of us who have gone to the solo look just lay the plate down and leave it in the same spot on the fender.
You can see it in this pic of my bike.

I noticed the lay down plate and wonder what bracket you used. I've been looking at lay down brackets and a little afraid after I get it, I wont want it. Does the bracket you have effect the lighting in the back of the bike as I believe in enough lighting to be seen is important? I also noticed those bulky red reflectors that are on the side of the stock bracket look to be eliminated..........

Jerry, I did not buy a bracket. I used a piece of plexi glass and a chrome license plate holder.
Cut the plexi to just fit inside the back of the holder. Marked where to drill two holes to match the holes in the fender where I removed the original bracket. Also marked where to drill holes to fasten license plate and chrome frame to plexi.
Drill holes and install plexi on fender using original bolts.. Then installed plate and frame to plexi. Simple and cheap.
Well, it is simple to do if you can understand my explanation

Flavor, I don't think the plate laying down reduces the lighting, the removal of the reflectors affects your visibility however.
To counteract this I installed a set of run/brake lights on my saddlebags. Granted that doesn't help in the side view but it really is much more visible from the rear than stock lighting.
I'm sure if you were concerned you could always put some kind of reflective material on the side of the tail light.

Hope this helps guys.

Here's a link to a lay down plate explanation from the gadgets page. It is what I did and I have no complaints.

Lay down plate is easy to make. 1/8th in. alumium plate. Jigsaw will cut this out to shape. Filing/sanding/polishing will look after the finishing.

As for the plate being mounted under turn signals..thats an easy one also. 1/8th alumium plate works here too. Undo bracket for turn signals and trace out the mounting bolt area. Make plate backing and mount. A small lite can be mounted there too. Tap into the wireing for the original plate lite and take out the bulb from up top. Sorry, not a good pic..but you can see what it looks like...Bdog
