Dual Sport that is. Having sold my KX250 last fall I knew it was just a matter of time before I'd get another dirt bike. I've been researching this for a couple of years and decided the DR650 is the bike for me

Went to the city yesterday and went to 3 different dealers. The first dealer I went to was very busy. Lots of people asking questions and trying out bikes. Spring fever was running high. They didn't have any readily available and at $7300 out the door(OTD) I was kinda disappointed.

Second dealership was nearly empty. Only one other couple talking to a salesman and they were just leaving. I approached this salesman and tell him I'm ready to pick up a new bike today and he says "just one minute I'll be right back".
So I have a look at the bike carefully, then I got on and tinkered around with it for awhile, got off and checked it over again, looked at some pamphets, looked around the store. WTF don't they want any business. ???
Finally this younger guy comes up and asks if I can be helped. He gives me an OTD price of $6500 plus $500 Suzuki bucks. Sounds pretty good but I'm still kinda upset because of the first salesmans lack of service.

Third dealerships the charm. Same OTD price of $6500 plus $500 Suzuki bucks. Salesman came up to me right away and was very helpful. Although I didn't pick up the bike yet all the paperwork is done. They have to prep the bike and cause it's 3 hours away from home I'll have to pick it up next time I'm in the city. Still friggin snowing here anyways.

March 20 is pick up date. Any other Dual Sport riders here?

....Congrats Bosko!!! Although I am not into dual sport, its not cause it don't intrigue me. Hope you enjoy it. :) It amazes me to hear that in tough times like this, some dealers still don't grasp the concept of customer service! Go figure.

You'll need to put a snow-ski conversion kit on the front for next winter!!

Have fun... it looks like it provide a lot of it.

Congrats on the new bike. Should be a fun ride!

I have been thinking of making the same move, been looking at the KLR650, but the dealer here wants way too much for everything on the floor, and always has. The will sit on a bike for 3 years rather than sell it for what other dealers will sell for, so waiting till I find the right deal.

I think it's time to ride to another dealer.

Congratulations! It seems terrible that you had to go to 3 dealerships to get the kind of customer service you deserved!

Thanks guys. Dual Sport riding will give me access to so many more roads and trails. Looking forward to checking out many new areas that are right in my backyard.

Dan, I know the Nomad can go wherever the DR can but it's not really practical for me.

I'll keep the Nomad for pavement and 2-up riding. :)

Congrats on the Suzy. Hoping to pickup a used KLR650 next week to hold me over until my next Nomad. They say they're addictive once you start riding them. ;)

Awesome! The DR is a great bike. I have commented about DRs and KLRs for quite a while. Not to act like supercross riders, just to plunk along some easy trails and see some neat stuff.
I hope to purchase a pre-2008 KLR650 or DR650 this year as well.
Enjoy the bike and the ride. They are addicting.

Got a 91 KLR 650 - love the damn thing to death! This is my second one, had the original 1984 KLR 600 first - put alot of miles on it, only thing was it was a kicker only!! There are a lot of KLR's in Edmonton area and they go out on lots of Dual Sport rides! There are quite a few here in calgary too, but I stick pretty well to myself, maybe a few of the guys in the club that also have KLR's! The DR's are nice - tank is a little small ( but there is less weight).
