should i do it
Ok.. I am going to head to the dealer to pay on my new 08 nomad today, hopefully have it in the garage by next weekend for sure after a few pieces of chrome are put on. My question... My first bike is a 04 vulcan 750. bought it 06 with 3K on it.. Now's its rollin around 15K. Love the bike for what I do. actually riding 2 up was my main reason for looking to a bigger bike. it got around fine but lacked the comfort. I want to keep 2 bikes. one for just bookin back and forth to work, possible rainy days ect. save the nad for the pleasure rides.. Now, only being into motorcycles for 2 years I know nothing of other bikes.. I do know that beyond the semi cramped size of the 750 they seem to have their share of wrench time. Now I have a buddy who has a 95 honda shadow 1100. it's pretty much mint with 8K miles on it. I can pick it up i think for around trade in value of 2300. Then I could sell the vulcan and pocket some cash. so.. since it's just a "work" bike.. which bike do you guys think I should go with?

Lets see, an 04 with 15k, or a 95 with 8k.
You know the 04 and all it's feels and sounds. Apparently has been very reliable. The 95 has an average of 500+ miles per year. Unknown if there have been any years without being run. Older technology vs. Newer technology. Atrophy (sp) of seals from lack of use etc. The 95 looks like a good deal. I would keep the 04 until the 95 proves itself in the reliability department. Maybe a couple thousand miles to make sure all is good. New tires, all fluids including fork oil, brake etc would be recommended. Hey, you may end up with three bikes in your stable!

Keep the 750...
You'll never get what it's worth in today's market.. Eventually it'll have cobwebs on it because you'll want to keep riding the Nomad... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The nomad has good manners in town; you may want to use it for both.

the shadow design has been around for years, its almost bullet proof if it has been taken care of well.

I think you're missing lots of good opportunities to be riding the Nomad by having a different "commuter scooter", but that's just my 2 centavos. Lucille hauls me to work as well as on pleasure rides.

I've no knowledge of the Vulcan 750's, but the Shadows are well-known for their reliability. Dated, but proven technology, even today. The most you'll need to do with the Shadow is sync the carbs once in awhile, and run some SeaFoam through it once a year to keep the varnish and carbon buildup in check. Sounds like you already have plans for doing the full maintenance on it, and if it checks out, I think you'll have a very sound machine. Good luck on your decision.
